Watch Dogs 2’s latest patch added a strange new quest players are trying to solve right now

20 Feb

Watch Dogs 2 players have discovered something very mysterious after the latest update.

watch_dogs_2_patch_ar_game

Watch Dogs 2 was patched last week, but Ubisoft failed to mention everything it added to the game when it released official patch notes.

Oh, we know the ending of Watch Dogs 2 was extended slightly, but we think that’s probably just a nod to the first Watch Dogs 2 DLC. No, something altogether weirder is going on.

As elegantly summarised by Kotaku, Watch Dogs 2 subreddit members first noticed something was different in patch 1.1 when NPC dialogue started referencing four missing teenagers.

Confirming the community’s suspicions that something weird was happening, the official Watch Dogs 2 Tumblr began feeding them clues. Shortly afterwards, players began to find new graffiti scattered around Oakland, and in these locations they could hear strange noises. Viewing the graffiti on in-game phones turned up extra clues.

I won’t spoil the good investigative work of the Watch Dogs 2 community (and perhaps your own enjoyment of the emerging story) by giving you the full details, but the new quest seems to involve a Slenderman-style urban legend.

It’s not clear whether the next step in the quest chain is to be found in Watch Dogs 2 itself or whether we’ll have to wait for Ubisoft’s social team to drop some clues, AR style. It is clear that now is a good time to return to Watch Dogs 2 and follow along, though.

Watch Dogs 2 Update 1.11 Shows Players A New Mystery Quest

20 Feb

Last week, Ubisoft released a new Watch Dogs 2 update that was designed to help prepare the way for the game’s story DLC, called Human Condition. This update, Watch Dogs 2 update 1.11, has now appeared to bear fruit, as players have started to uncover a mystery quest hidden in San Francisco for them to […]

Watch Dogs 2 ‘Human Conditions’ DLC Release Date

19 Feb
There’s more adventure just around the corner for Watch Dogs 2, as the Human Conditions DLC gets ready to drop on February 21 on PS4, and March 23 on Xbox One and PC. Check Out the Watch Dogs 2 ‘Human Conditions’ DLC Trailer: The new expansion is a meaty one, adding three new multi-mission Operations...

Watch Dogs 2 Human Conditions DLC adds five hours of content, video takes a look at two new missions

17 Feb

The next DLC drop for Watch Dogs 2 hits next week first on PlayStation 4, and according to Ubisoft, it’s rather large.

As outlined in the Season Pass, Human Conditions adds five hours of additional multi-mission Operations to the Watch Dogs 2 story. The video above provides a look at two of the new areas.

Players will be trying to uncover “biggest scandals on the cutting edge of science, medicine, and misuse” in San Francisco. It also provides Marcus and DedSec new villains to contend with, one of which – the Jammer – uses technology to hunt down the player.

Human Conditions also contains new elite co-op missions.

A patch for the game was released earlier this week, paving the way for the next content drop. It introduced free content with added and updated locations on the world map.

Additional content included new dance moves, emotes, clothing, Ubisoft Club Rewards, Bounty Hunter respawn, and some added narrative was added to the game’s ending.

It also introduced tweaks to online gameplay, bug fixes, PC-specific updates and balancing. It is around 10GB in sizes on both PS4 and Xbox One, and 14GB on PC. Ubisoft said it would be best if everyone download the update so the community wouldn’t be split.

You can look over the patch notes through here if you like.

The Watch Dogs 2 Human Conditions DLC will be released on PS4 February 21 and on March 23 for PC and Xbox One.

All present and future online content is available in Guest Mode. This allows a friend of yours who doesn’t own the DLC to be invited into the game through the multiplayer app.

The latest Watch Dogs 2 patch extends the ending, and may be hinting at a sequel

14 Feb

The ending of Watch Dogs 2 is now a few seconds longer than before, and may be hinting at the series’ future.

watch_dogs_2

The latest patch notes for the game outline the many changes that have been introduced with title update 1.11. New areas have been opened up in preparation for the upcoming DLC, and there are new emotes and clothing to enjoy. Wearing different clothing may now produce different dance moves when you use the ‘dance’ emote too, which sounds like a good excuse for a ‘trying on lots of different outfits’ montage.

There are quite a few different changes listed, but the most interesting is the slight addition made to the game’s ending. “Without spoiling all of the fun in the patch notes, we’ll just say that if you’ve finished the story you should replay the last mission to watch a little extra something at the end”, the update post promises.

If you want to have your fun spoiled, of course, someone has already gone ahead and uploaded the addition to the end. You can watch it here; the new stuff starts at around 2:17.

Without spoiling it here, the addition seems to hint at a new location. As Kotaku has pointed out, there are coordinates on screen that seem to point towards Brixton, London. The DLC has been confirmed as taking place in San Francisco, so this is curious.

Of course, it might turn out that this isn’t hinting at anything. The game’s initial sales were weak, which has led many to think that the series might not get a third game; however, Ubisoft has also stated that sales have improved quite a bit since then.

Whether or not the game is getting a sequel is unclear, then, but for now you can enjoy a few extra seconds of ending. The patch is 10GB on Xbox One and PS4, and 14GB on PC.

Watch Dogs 2 Update 1.11 Adds New Content And Prepares For DLC

13 Feb

Watch Dogs 2 update 1.11 is going to be coming soon, and will not only be adding new content but will also be preparing for DLC when the time comes for Ubisoft to announce it. The update will be ten gigs, a fairly noticeable size for its content, but not really surprising. See Also: Watch […]

Watch Dogs 2 sales have improved since “soft” release period thanks to word of mouth, says Ubisoft

10 Feb

Watch Dogs 2 is doing better than early reports indicated, which must be a relief to Ubisoft.

watch_dogs_2

Watch Dogs 2‘s release window sales were described as “soft” during Ubisoft’s post-financials release briefing today.

Despite this admission, Ubisoft remained bullish on the franchise, saying that strong sales followed release due to positive word-of-mouth buzz. The publisher is “happy” with Watch Dogs 2’s performance, CEO Yves Guillemot said, and commented that these healthy sales are important for the long term future of the Watch Dogs franchise.

Watch Dogs 2 UK release sales were well down on the first game’s performance, and it came in eighth on the NPD’s November charts – although it was a crowded month, mind.

At release, Ubisoft said it was “incredibly happy” with critical and player response to Watch Dogs 2 and expected the positive reception to lead to a good sales tail. Looks like it was right on the money, there.

Though Ubisoft did not give hard numbers on Watch Dogs 2’s sales to date, it did say it has already out-performed Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate, which came out a year earlier.

Syndicate was the last Assassin’s Creed game before Ubisoft suddenly put the franchise on hold after years of annual sequels. It’s a shame, really; although it suffered the same weaknesses as other series entries and multi-studio open world games in general, Syndicate had a lot of points in its favour and was an improvement on the notoriously broken Assassin’s Creed: Unity – the game likely responsible for Syndicate’s subdued sales and Assassin’s Creed going away until, perhaps, 2018.

Speaking of which, Ubisoft said it has just four triple-A releases coming between April 2017 and March 2018 – one of which is the delayed South Park: The Fractured But Whole – and had in fact elected not to release a fifth planned triple-A game, but instead focus on supporting an existing title currently enjoying powerful engagement.

Ubisoft will be actively supporting six live games this year (I think it means For Honor, Ghost Recon: Wildlands, Rainbow Six Siege, The Division, Steep and The Crew), which is a new record for the publisher – so it probably doesn’t need any extra triple-A releases to contend with on top of all that.

No idea what the three unaccounted for triple-A releases are. Assassin’s Creed might come back earlier than expected, and Far Cry probably has another release in it. It seems a little early for a sequel to The Division, but The Crew might be good for another go round.
