7 Dec

Space Hulk: Deathwing, the FPS from Streum On studio set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, will be delayed – but it’s a short wait.

According to a announcement from publisher Focus Home Interactive, instead of releasing this week on December 9 as planned, the game will arrive a week later on December 14.

The extra time will provide the development team time to address technical points raised during the closed technical beta last week.

Most issues have already been addressed, according to the studio. These include: improvement to loading times, optimization of general performance, improvement of interface and menu elements, sound-design changes including character voices, and fix of numerous bugs and nearly all occurrences of crashes.

Work is ongoing to fix the remainder of these issues.

To hold you over until release, a final batch of images have been released, and can be seen above in the gallery.

Space Hulk: Deathwing will be released on PS4 and Xbox One in early 2017.

Check out 17 minutes of Space Hulk: Deathwing’s solo campaign

19 Nov

Here’s a new video for the first-person shooter Space Hulk: Deathwing, based on the Games Workshop boardgame.

Set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, along with a cooperative multiplayer mode, Space Hulk features a solo campaign which was written in collaboration with Black Library author and Dark Angels specialist, Gav Thorpe.

What you see above is 17 minutes worth of uncut gameplay from the campaign, which clocks in at around 15 hours when in normal difficulty mode.

If played on harder difficulty and with time taken to explore to find hidden relics along the way, the campaign will last even longer.

The campaign also has huge environments, with lots of “optional areas and secret rooms to discover.”

Here’s what you can expect from the solo campaign, according to developer Streum On Studio:

“In the campaign you play as a Librarian of the Dark Angels’ 1st Company, the Deathwing, taking on swarms of Genestealer in the Space Hulk Olethros with Storm Bolter and Force Sword in hand. The Librarian is a Psyker, granting him access to powerful psychic abilities such as chain lighting, a powerful lightning bolt, which arcs between multiple enemies; and Shockwave, which blasts enemies back from you. You will need to utilize the full armory of the Deathwing company, your powerful psychic abilities, as well as the squad members under your command to fend off the xenos threat.

“The Genestealers adapt their behaviour, based on their numbers, their type, and your actions. Commanding your teammates to cover you, block doors to prevent genestealers from flanking you, heal you, or hold a key position, is vital to survival in the depths of the Space Hulk. By playing the campaign you also unlock new weaponry for use by you and your squadmates, along with gaining experience to spend on three skill trees to unlock powerful new abilities.”

Space Hulk: Deathwing will be made available for download on PC, December 9 and will arrive on consoles in 2017.

The massive ship interiors in Space Hulk: Deathwing look pretty great

22 Jan

The ships in Space Hulk: Deathwing are huge, and highly detailed as you will see in this new set of screenshots.

As a Librarian accompanied by a Terminator squad, players will explore and fight inside these mammoth, derelict Warhammer 40,000 ships solo or cooperatively with friends.

These include a large battle-barge belonging to the Black Templars, as well as a vessel from the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Inside these ships players will shoot it out with an army of Genestealer while recovering relics within the ships and asteroids composing the Space Hulk.

The first-person shooter by Streum On Studio, built with Unreal Engine 4, contains a full story campaign and all of the weapons featured in the Space Hulk board game.

It releases this year on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade Review (iOS)

26 Nov

Along with Dungeons & Dragons, Warhammer seems to be one of those franchises that is immune to failing overall. Sure fans can argue over the moon how a version/edition/expansion was lame, but even the “weakest” products will still shift enough numbers to make it a success and with Warhammer 40,000 enjoying another period of media

Tap-to-shoot Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade lets you play as an Imperial Knight

13 Aug

A new tap-to-shoot action combat game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe is in the works with Gunfinger developer Pixel Toys.

Coming soon to mobile and tablets, in Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade, players will take command of an Imperial Knight which is an armored war mech.

“The game signals a real step-change for Pixel Toys,” said Andy Wafer, co-founder of Pixel Toys. “We started Pixel Toys three years ago with a passion to use our console background to create high impact action titles for touch screen devices.

“Warhammer fans have never seen 40k’s futuristic troops, creatures and vehicles of war in combat like this before on touch screen platforms. We’ve recreated the 40k universe in intricate detail, authentically modelling each individual component and bringing it to life on a grand scale – fighting in close-up combat, complete with dramatic environmental destruction coupled with mobile-appropriate gameplay and a control system.”

As players control their Imperial Knight through the 40+ mission campaign, they will come across other dynamically-created Patrol missions.

Players will be able to customize and upgrade their mech through the crafting system using loot picked up in the game. As the game progresses, more upgrades will be made available.

Warhammer 40,000: Freeblade is due to launch for mobile and tablet devices this autumn.
