For Honor’s Peacekeeper gets a temp ban in MLG online tournaments due to being overpowered

28 Mar

The For Honor tournament community is tired of the Peacekeeper being overpowered, and Major League Gaming has heard the complaints loud and clear.

According to many who play the game, the Peacekeeper’s light attack in For Honor is being spammed by players, making it a tough character to beat – if not impossible sometimes.

All you have to do is look through For Honor subreddit and you will find many a post dedicated to the class. You can also look at the video above from YourFriendlyKebab, which was posted on the MLG forums.

One MLG forum user, Clint44mag, started a thread a few days ago stating the Peacekeeper should be “banned until a re-balancing patch comes out,” for a variety of reasons.

“The Peacekeeper causes a lack of diversity, is abnormally strong compared to the other characters, and reduces the competitive spirit of For Honor,” wrote Clint44mag.

You can read his entire post through here.

In response, an MLG Online supervisor has decided for online tournaments, the firm will “try running a tournament with Peacekeeper banned,” and send a poll out for feedback. If the community is “largely in favor of banning the hero,” it will do so.

Hopefully, Ubisoft is paying attention, and the Peacekeeper will finally get some much needed balancing.

For Honor patch 1.04 released, here’s what it does

24 Mar

For Honor’s latest patch does a bit of housekeeping, and fixes a bug introduced with the previous patch.

for_honor_launch_screens (4)

For Honor has a new patch available, version 1.04. The update was released yesterday on PC, PS4, and Xbox One following server maintenance.

1.04 doesn’t bring many changes, but it does have a fix for the Conqueror glitch the previous patch introduced. Ubisoft also said the update includes fixes to improve match stability.

Find the full notes below:

General (all platforms):

  • Various bug fixes to improve performance and match stability.
  • Addressed the Conqueror graphical glitch introduced in the last Live Update as part of our ongoing session stability fixes.

Xbox One specific

  • Added functionality to enable/disable invites.
  • A player that is in a state that cannot be joined (Story Mode, Practicing, Loading Screens) will not be able to send invites
  • Game invite options will no longer be greyed out if there’s a free slot

In other For Honor news, the game recently came under fire after players calculated it would take years to earn enough Steel to be able to afford everything in the in-game store without paying money, which prompted the developer to respond.

Unfortunately, the response only helped fuel the fire. Server issues are still being reported by players to this day, which also isn’t helping the game’s case.

Grinding in For Honor Part of Design, Ubisoft Further Infuriates Community

23 Mar

Earlier this week, Ubisoft was heavily criticized by the community for incorporating a rather steep and unreasonable microtransactions model in For Honor. In short, someone who invests a couple of hours daily will need at least 2.5 years to unlock everything available in the game. Either that or the player must fork over $700 in […]

We May Play As An Ancestor of Altair In Assassin’s Creed: Empire

20 Mar

A new source of information on Assassin’s Creed: Empire has brought up a few interesting tidbits of possible information, including the possibility that we’re playing as an ancestor of Altair. While there’s no confirmation on any of it, the mere prospect is very interesting to think about. Altair Ibn-La’Ahad was the first “protagonist” of the […]

Assassin’s Creed: Empire resurfaces again in Swiss retailer listing

20 Mar

Assassin’s Creed: Empire could be out before the end of the year, according to one retailer.

assassins creed empire

It looks like everyone except Ubisoft is anxious to talk about the next Assassin’s Creed game.

After what some believed to be an in-game screenshot of the next Assassin’s Creed leaked online, fans of the series are anticipating an announcement around E3 2017, and hoping for a release later this.

It now appears we have one retailer who believes the game will launch in the fourth quarter of 2017. Swiss retailer WOG has product page for Empire that only mentions a release window, with no screenshots or synopsis – not even a box art.

empire_swiss_retailer_listing

It’s possible of course this is just speculation on the retailer’s part, a bid to bring in pre-orders for the next Assassin’s Creed game, without necessarily knowing anything about it.

With that in mind, retailers sometimes have access to information shared through the supply chain that gives them access to details ahead of their reveal to the general consumer. We can’t say one way or another in this case.

The next Assassin’s Creed title, codenamed Empire, is said to be set in ancient Egypt. Little else is known about Empire, other than the reports about it being a complete overhaul for the series.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands spends second week at UK No.1

20 Mar

Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands continues its reign at UK No.1.

ghost_recon_wildlands_main_art_banner

Last week, Ghost Recon: Wildlands debuted at the No.1 spot in the UK charts, with the biggest week 1 launch of the year to date.

One week later, it’s still sitting pretty at the top, with LEGO Worlds nipping at its heels, after bumping Horizon Zero Dawn down a notch to No.3.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is down two places, from No.4 to No.6, while Nier: Automata has dropped out of the top 10 completely, going from No.6 to No.14.

Amazingly, GTA 5 is still in the top five, and Infinite Warfare and FIFA 17 are still hanging on in the top ten.

Styx: Shards of Darkness is the only new entry, landing at No.37.

You can check out this week’s top 10 below:

  1. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands
  2. LEGO Worlds
  3. Horizon Zero Dawn
  4. GTA 5
  5. FIFA 17
  6. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
  7. Rocket League
  8. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
  9. Minecraft: Xbox One Edition
  10. Forza Horizon 3

For Honor will cost you over $700 in microtransactions for all unlocks, or two and a half years to earn without them

20 Mar

For Honor players have run the numbers, and they’re not thrilled with the outcome.

for_honor_crop

For Honor enjoyed a decent launch week in the UK charts when it released at the end of February, but things have started to go down hill rather swiftly, with p2p connectivity issues, cheaters running rampant, and people playing silly buggers with AFK farming.

Just two weeks after release, the game lost 50% of its player base on Steam. Things are not looking peachy in the land of samurais, vikings, and knights.

And now they’re looking even worse, as some number-crunching has been going on over on Reddit, with user bystander007 totting up just how much it would cost in microtransactions to unlock all of the bells and whistles for the 12 heroes, and the heroes themselves – not counting any DLC.

“Ubisoft is notorious for their deceptively expensive multiplayer games as anyone who has played any of their recent Tom Clancy games could tell you. I personally have just suppressed the Completionist within me and stopped bothering to grind for unlocks. Once you do the math, you’ll agree.”

According to bystander007, is costs around 91,500 steel (the in-game currency) to unlock each character and all of their customisations in the base game. For all 12, we’re looking at 1,098,000 steel, which equates to approximately 7.32 of the $100 steel packs.

“So Ubisoft has valued their in-game unlocks within the base game at a $732 over-charge of the original $60-100 spent on the game.”

If you’re thinking about not dropping any money on the steel packs because you’re happy to earn them through playing the game, bystander007 has some bad news for you.

“Casual players who play 1-2 hours 5-7 days a week will never reach this goal. Completing Orders/half-Contracts will get you roughly 1000 Steel, another roughly 200 for the matches you played. So 1200 a day is a good estimated gain for casual players. That’s 915 days. Roughly 2.51 years.”

While the rate of earning steel varies depending on how much time you’re sinking in to the game, the post points out that even the most hardcore players willing to grind the hell out of it are looking at a year.

“To everyone…who comments ‘Do you really need all unlocks?’ My answer is a big fat resounding…YES. [Because I paid] for them. It’s base game content in a full price game I paid for. I should be able to get every single unlock I conceivably want to unlock. And it shouldn’t take me 2 years to [do it]…”

If the math is sound, then bystander007 has a point. Microtransactions can be a quick way to unlock things for those people that don’t have as much time to play as others, letting them catch up without sinking hours of their time into the game, but conversely, you should be able to unlock content in the base game within a reasonable amount of time if you don’t want to spend any extra cash.

What are your thoughts on all of this? Has Ubisoft crossed the line with this? Do you think players shouldn’t get worked up about having to spend either money or an exorbitant amount of time to unlock base game content? Chime in below.

Year 2 of the Rainbow Six Siege Pro League drops Xbox One to be PC exclusive

17 Mar

The competitive play side of Rainbow Six Siege will only take place on PC going forward.

The Rainbow Six Pro League, Rainbow Six Siege‘s eSports tournament –
which will soon start its second year, was divided into two tournaments during the first year.

The two divisions, one for PC and another for Xbox One, ran parallel to one another, sharing a prize purse worth $100,000. Ubisoft announced that this year, the tournament will take place exclusively on PC. The publisher said it’s doing this to “ensure a bigger and better development of the competition”.

Console players will still be able to participate in the Major Leagues.

This year will feature three seasons as well as a grand final. The top-placing teams at the end of each season will compete for the same $100,000 at the grand final. Year Two kicks off March 20 in North America, March 23 in Europe, and March 26 in Brazil.

See the link for more details about the competing teams, and where to watch the action. The finals will take place in Katowice, Poland on May 20-21.

For Honor and Resident Evil 7 top US charts in February

17 Mar

For Honor came out on top during February in the US, despite having been out for only 12 days.

for_honor_gamescom_2016_screen_1

The NPD Group has published its full report for February 2017, covering the US retail (and some digital stores) gaming business. Last week, we learned that PS4 came out on top during the month.

Now, we get to take a look at the software side of the business. The report shows data tracked until February 25.

Overall, all segments tracked showed a decline. $724 million in revenues were generated by the industry in the period, a 21% drop year-over-year from $918.7 million. Console software generated $344.2 million, thanks to new releases, but it wasn’t enough to beat the $402 million from the same period last year.

For Honor was the best selling game of the month, despite having only been out for 12 days before the report’s cutoff date. The game topped the list for both consoles, too.

Nioh was the other new entry on the list, landing at no.9. Halo Wars 2 did not manage to break the top ten, but it did earn the no.6 spot on the Xbox One’s best selling list.

Here’s the top ten overall that month:

  • For Honor
  • Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
  • Grand Theft Auto 5
  • NBA 2K17
  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
  • Rainbow Six: Siege
  • Madden NFL 17
  • Battlefield 1
  • Nioh
  • Overwatch

Top ten PS4 games

  • For Honor
  • Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
  • Grand Theft Auto 5
  • Nioh
  • NBA 2K17
  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
  • Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue
  • Battlefield 1
  • Madden NFL 17
  • Rainbow Six: Siege

Top ten Xbox One games

  • For Honor
  • Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
  • Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare
  • Grand Theft Auto 5
  • NBA 2K17
  • Halo Wars 2
  • Rainbow Six: Siege
  • Battlefield 1
  • Madden NFL 17
  • Overwatch

Horizon: Zero Dawn is not on the list because it released after the report’s data was collected, but will no doubt show up next month. We’re also expecting some data on how the Switch launch went in the US in March’s report.

Rainbow Six Siege mid-season patch out today, Technical Test Server coming soon

15 Mar

Rainbow Six Siege is getting its own test server, just as a new patch goes live.

rainbow_six_siege_new_screen_6

Ubisoft has announced that a new mid-season patch for Rainbow Six Siege is dropping today. The patch brings some balance changes for operators Buck, Doc, Glaz, Raven, and Glaz.

The developer also announced that Siege is getting its own Technical Test Servers (TTS), an environment where new additions and changes can be tested before they go live. The TTS will launch in the weeks ahead, and the first order of business is testing the new One-Step Matchmaking feature.

To start with, the patch will go live following one hour maintenance on all platforms. PS4 is up first with servers going offline at 6am PT, 9am ET, 1pm GMT/UK. Xbox One server maintenance starts 7am PT, 10am ET, 2pm GMT/UK. As for PC, servers go offline beginning 8am PT, 11am ET, 3pm GMT/UK.

Here are the headline changes, followed by the full change log.

Glaz‘s Flip Sight gets an upgrade. It’s now able to outline defenders using thermal vision. This works even through smoke grenades. The patch brings a new Elite Skin, this time it’s the French Resistance-themed Maquis set for Twitch.

Doc‘s overheal effect has received a buff, increasing the limit to 140. The developer felt that 120 wasn’t enough to make a difference.

Buck‘s Skeleton Key gadget now has one extra magazine. This change was made following feedback that the gadget ran out of ammo quickly.

Weapon balance

-Red dot, reflex, and holo sight reticle size increase – Due to the realignment of sights in the Velvet Shell update that brought many of the sights closer, we saw immediate feedback from the community that the reticles of many sights were back to being too large. We have corrected this and the reticle sizes will now be less obstructive when ADS’ing to allow for better precision and vision.

-Trigger rate change for DMRs to prevent rapid firing – The DMRs’ maximum “trigger” rate has been lowered to prevent very rapid firing. This change was made because the maximum trigger rate was too high. Some people were able to click so fast on their mouse that it turned the DMR into a fully automatic AR. We felt like this was too strong.

-Echo’s MP5SD2 damage increased at medium range – We have buffed the MP5SD2’s damage at medium range. We felt like the weapon’s damage was subpar because of its integrated silencer. Before the patch, the gun dealt 25 damage from 0 to 10 meters, then fell to its lowest damage at 14. It now has 29 damage from 0 to 15 meters then falls off to 14 damage at 20 meters.

-Thermite’s 556XI is now easier to control – The 556xi’s recoil has been tweaked to make it easier to control. The weapon’s personality has not been changed, but you should have an easier time at being more precise with it.

-Caveira’s Luison damage dropoff change – Caveira’s Luison damage has been buffed at medium range encounters. Pre-Patch, the damage went from 70 damage at 7 meters down to 20 damage at 18 meters. Now it goes from 70 damage at 7 meters to 35 damage at 18 meters. It then falls of to 20 damage at 24 meters. We felt like Caveira’s signature weapon damage dropoff was too sharp and made it hard for players to understand what range is lethal and which isn’t. It is now as good, or better, at all ranges than the standard PRB92.

-Jackal’s C7E recoil balance – We have increased the recoil of the C7E. We felt like it was way too accurate and had no downsides. It is now harder to control for prolonged full automatic fire.

-Capitao’s PARA-308 recoil buff – We have buffed the PARA-308’s recoil. A lot of the Pro League players expressed how hard to control this weapon is and we felt they were absolutely right. It should be easier to control over fully automatic fire and should sway a little less to the sides.

Gameplay fixes

  • FIXED – There is an exploit that results in Ranked games awarding 0-5 MMR after a win.
  • FIXED – Hit registration and kill cam show a headshot without the proper bonus point with a neck shot.

    Terrorist Hunt

Operator fixes

    Shield operators

  • FIXED – Shields are not protecting Operators from explosive damage.
    Blitz

    Frost

  • FIXED – Frost is unable to place her traps near a window.
    Echo

  • FIXED – When hit by a Yokai sonic burst, the camera mode can’t be used for the duration of the disorientation effect.
  • FIXED – The Yokai drone resets its initial camera direction every time Echo accesses it.
  • FIXED – The Yokai drone will sometimes experience the wrong collision detection when it is sticking to the ceiling and will result in a “losing signal” erro
    Mira

  • FIXED – Breaking reinforcement panels placed around indestructible pillar will leave gaps between the wall and reinforcement.
  • FIXED – The One Way Mirror plant event is triggered twice, making the sound too loud.
  • FIXED – Sometimes Mira cannot place Reinforcements next to the One Way Mirror.

  • FIXED – A player will get stuck in a wall when entering from rappel in 1F Dining Room.
    Clubhouse

  • FIXED – Defenders are able to clip into the outside shed by vaulting over a deployable shield.
    Bank

  • FIXED – Objects on shelves disappear and deform upon LOD drop.

User experience fixes

  • FIXED – The Square button on PS4 loses functionality on the highlighted items on the Shop tab if the user tries to buy with square button and returns.
  • FIXED – The screen remains in continuous loading when accessing the Ubisoft Club Challenges in-game and in the Uplay client.
  • FIXED – Full screen mode on a customization item can only be accessed once per item.
  • FIXED – Certain charms contain placeholder icons.
  • FIXED – Some Operators have lower resolution texture in their headgear pictures and in the character model preview mode. (This is an ongoing process, and additional Operators will be touched on in future updates.)
