Prominent World of Tanks streamer Poshybrid dies after lengthy stream

22 Feb

Brian “Poshybrid” Vigneault, a Twitch streamer known for his World of Tanks streams, has died after streaming the game for 22 hours straight.

world of tanks xbox one 2

Poshybrid was 22 hours into a stream in which he was collecting money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, when he got up to take a smoke break and never returned. His death didn’t become known until the next day.

As Kotaku has reported, detectives from the Virgina Beach police department are investigating the incident.

Poshybrid had 7852 subscribers on Twitch, and regularly hosted long streams on little sleep.

This is a strong reminder of the importance of employing safe practices if you’re a streamer – try to avoid sleep deprivation, keep hydrated, and don’t be afraid to pull the plug on a stream if necessary.

Our thoughts are with his friends, family, and fans.

Today, Shabana is starting from scratch, so be prepared to get a look at the tutorials before she heads into the campaign.

Because of this, I have no idea which faction she will choose, but I’m crossing my fingers for the Berserker because chaotic and brutal viking are my thing. In games, obviously.

It’s also possible we’ll see some multiplayer later on. Wish her well.

If you’re playing For Honor and need some tips, give our guide a read.

For Honor is one of the first big releases for the year, and arrived on PC, PS4 and Xbox One this week.

Watch the Battlefield 1 Winter Update livestream here

13 Feb

We’re moments away from the start of a Battlefield 1 livestream.

Watch live video from Battlefield on www.twitch.tv

DICE is showcasing the next big Battlefield 1 patch at the top of the hour in a dedicated livestream on Twitch. Typically, patches don’t get their own livestreams, but this one is for the Winter Update.

The Winter – or February – Update is expected to bring a number of balance changes, some of which have already been tested in the game’s Community Test Environment (CTE). New content is unlikely, but we still expect the changes to be big.

DICE previously confirmed that the patch will indeed be dropping this week, so expect more details such as patch notes, and exact rollout times to be shared during the show.

We’ve embedded the livestream above, and as always, if it’s big news, you’ll hear about it here first.

DICE will officially detail the Battlefield 1 February update later today

13 Feb

We’re going to get a proper breakdown of everything coming to Battlefield 1 this week with the Winter Update.

Last week, Battlefield 1 developer DICE confirmed that the game’s next big patch is due for release this week.

Until now, the details of what’s getting changed have yet to be announced. Later today, however, everything will become clear in a livestream dedicated to the Winter Update.

This first look show will go on for an hour, and will kick off at 1pm PT, 4pm ET, and 9pm UK/GMT. The livestream will appear on the game’s official Twitch channel.

DICE has yet to give any hints about the type of announcements we can expect from the livestream, but whatever they end up being, we’ll be here to tell you all about them as they happen.

Layers of the Fear, one of the most talked about horror games of last year, has a few a good few jump scares if you’re in the mood for it. I personally can’t take it, which is why it’s good we have Shabana to host this livestream instead.

Layers of Fear’s walls are plastered with artworks of various disciplines, only they’ve got a few things going on than your typical portrait.

She’ll be starting off the adventure live in a few moments. This is her first go around in Layers of Fear, so be gentle. She’s also playing the PS4 version.

Tune in now, and make sure to come back later this week, as we’ll be embarking on a different kind of horror adventure.

Well, it’s a new year now, and the studio is ready to talk about Last Stand once again. Last night’s short teaser trailer certainly got people talking.

There’s no consensus just yet on what the game mode shown in the teaser is going to be about, but that’s what we’re hoping today’s livestream will clarify, and a lot more.

We’ll be here to bring you all the biggest announcements from livestream as they happen.

Nothing can beat the triple threat of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, and League of Legends in Twitch’s most watched games of 2016

16 Jan

The most watched games on Twitch last year didn’t involve many new releases.

overwatch_winter_wonderland (28)

Although Twitch popularity may not always translate to good sales for games, it undoubtedly reflects the tastes of the millions of players who frequent the incredibly popular livestreaming site.

GitHyp, the analytics service that recently revealed Steam’s most played games last year didn’t actually release that year, has published another report that breaks down the top games on Twitch during the same year.

According to the report, only one game released in 2016 managed to break the top five by peak viewer numbers. That game was Battlefield 1, but perhaps surprisingly, it’s done so during the initial reveal livestream rather than after release.

Overwatch was another hot game during the year, but only managed the no.6 spot, which is still decent seeing as it was a new release. No Man’s Sky landed on the tenth spot, and like its player numbers on Steam, the game’s viewer counts tanked, bringing it all the way down to the no.44 spot.

Here are the top five:

  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive / 985,434 peak viewers (#1 in 2015)
  • League of Legends / 931,460 peak viewers (#2 in 2015)
  • Dota 2 / 588,619 peak viewers (#3 in 2015)
  • Battlefield 1 / 354,264 peak viewers (new)
  • Hearthstone / 388,861 peak viewers (#5 in 2015)

Looking at the average viewers per hour, the list sees minor changes, with League of Legends and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive trading places, and Hearthstone replacing Battlefield 1, making room for Overwatch.

Both Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Modern Warfare Remastered didn’t do very well in terms of average viewers per hour, placing at no.19 and 21 respectively.

Here’s the viewers per hour list:

  • League of Legends / 116,997 viewers per hour (#1 in 2015)
  • Counter-Strike: Global Offensive / 59,730 viewers per hour (#2 in 2015)
  • Dota 2 / 56,127 viewers per hour (#3 in 2015)
  • Hearthstone / 53,820 viewers per hour (#4 in 2015)
  • Overwatch / 23,515 viewers per hour (new)

It’s clear Overwatch’s popularity is on the rise. Challenging titans like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Dota 2, and League of Legends is no small feat.

EA reveals stricter disclosure rules for YouTubers and Twitch streamers

17 Nov

EA has updated its recommendations for YouTubers and streamers when it comes to sponsored content created with the company. The new system takes a more overt approach.

EA Germany published a new blog post with updated requirements for YouTubers, Twitch streamers, and influencers that are designed to make it clear if the content published is advertorial.

Dug up by NeoGAF member w3bba, the new contractual obligations are split into two categories. The first deals with advertorial content, that is anything where the creator was directly approached by EA to make.

For this type, EA requires the creator to use the hashtag #advertisement, and the logo below. This will appear on any content that EA had editorial influence on.

The other governs content the publisher supported the creation of, such as press invites to EA-hosted events and shows, paying for travel expenses etc. In this case, EA did not influence the editorial side of the content, or asked for specifics to be included. That type of content should include the #supportedbyEA hashtag, and a matching logo.

As for content shared on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and the like, the publisher also requested creators to use these hashtags. In addition, EA asked creators to explicitly mention the type of partnership in their video or streams.
