Overwatch’s Tracer is getting her own, adorable Nendoroid

16 Feb

Yep, Tracer from Overwatch looks pretty cute in chibi form.

Overwatch‘s Tracer is one of the most recognisable heroes today. She’s on the game’s cover, and her distinct British accent and style is hard to miss.

The creators of Nendoroids, Good Smile Company, have announced a new figure for Tracer. Nendoroids are little toys that give famous characters chibi looks and allow you to set different poses for them. They’re palm-sized, and this one comes with customisable parts.

These include interchangeable bent legs, hair style options, and her pulse pistols. You can basically create some of Tracer’s in-game poses using the figure, you can even have her pose without the guns. The pulse bomb is also included.

“The Nendoroid is fully articulated, allowing her to be posed in many different ways, and has been carefully sculpted and tuned to ensure that the joints do not stand out, keeping Tracer’s unique appearance intact,” reads the product description.

Pre-orders will be open starting February 15 from 9am JST, 4pm PT, 12am GMT all the way through March 30 at 12am JST, 7am PT, 3pm GMT. You can order yours through the official store for ¥4,900 ($43).

The Tracer Nendoroid is scheduled to release this August.

McFarlane Toys is making these cool Destiny Guardian action figures, and they’re not expensive

15 Feb

McFarlane will release a set of Destiny action figures this summer.

Toy manufacturer McFarlane is teaming up with Destiny developer Bungie to create new action figures based on the game’s three Guardian classes. Three of these have been announced so far, for Warlock, Titan, and Hunter.

The announcement was made earlier through IGN. This initial wave will launch sometime in July, with each figure costing $20.

The figures come in collector-grade package, with window boxes revealing their look, and a Destiny-branded base. The Warlock is sporting the King’s Fall raid set, the Titan is rocking the classic Vault of Glass armour, and the Hunter is donning some of the more recent Iron Banner gear.

“Detail, depth, and customisation, that’s what Destiny gives its players, and that’s what made it the biggest new video game franchise launch,” said McFarlane Toys CEO Todd McFarlane.

The release also confirms other 10-inch figures will be released in the future, as well as “role play items.”

Super Mario McDonald’s Happy Meal toys returning to the UK this week

9 Jan

Grab a kid and head for McDonalds.

Nintendo has teamed up with McDonald’s to bring Super Mario Happy Meal toys to the UK for the third year running.

The Super Mario themed toys made their first appearance back in 2014, and this year, there are four sets of toys making the rounds over the next four weeks, as confirmed by Nintendo Life.

The toys are rolling out this week on January 11, and Mario and Yoshi are kicking things off. Peach and a Red Shell make their debut next week, followed by Bowser and Super Star and Blocks the week after. The last week is of course Luigi, and a Piranha Plant.

There are various activities included in the meals, so after you’ve bought a couple and ransacked them for the toys and food, you can give the greasy remnants to any children you know to keep them entertained as you arrange your new Super Mario diorama.

You’ll need to pay $150 for this slick Overwatch Reaper statue

28 Nov

If you’re a big fan of Overwatch’s Reaper, and have plenty of disposable income, this 12-inch statue looks pretty good.

Blizzard has revealed a new collectible statue for Reaper, one of the heroes in Overwatch. This $150, premium polystone statue is sculpted by Blizzard’s Brian Fay.

As you can see in the video above, and screens below, the sculptor attempted to recreate Death Blossom, Reaper’s ultimate ability that sends him spinning around blasting his shotguns on full auto. The statue is 12”(30.48cm)-tall, as measured from floor to heard.

You can place your pre-order now through the Blizzard store in one of two waves. The first wave will ship during the first quarter of 2017, while the second will follow in the year’s third quarter.

Keep in mind, though, that each statue will be hand-painted, so there may be slight differences between the image and what you’ll actually get.

There Are *AMAZING* Clash of Clans Figures on the Way

11 Oct

clash-of-clans-figs-overview

When it comes to things to see, there’s nothing quite like New York Comic Con. It’s a visual spectacle like nothing else in the U.S. right now, and the show floor is pure sensory overload.

That means it’s easy to miss some things if you don’t know where to look. It also opens the door to pleasant surprises, like awesome figures that are in the works for one of the most popular mobile games around. If you happened to check out the right side of the Kotobukiya booth at NYCC, you already know what I’m talking about. If not, you’ll just have to make do with these pictures.

Clash of Clans / Clash Royale figures

Clash of Clans / Clash Royale figures

Yes, those are the characters from Clash of Clans and Clash Royale. And yes, they were even more amazing in person than they look like in these photos.

They were behind glass at the Kotobukiya booth, so I couldn’t actually touch them. They appeared to be about six inches tall and were displayed next to diagrams showing how the sculptors used references from the actual games to produce their stunning likenesses.

It’s also quite possible they are statues and not true action figures, since they don’t appear to have any articulation. Kotobukiya is well known for producing high end collectibles of all kinds.

I asked the gentlemen working the booth more about them, since they were one of the few product lines not actually for sale. The reply I got was that they would only be available through the Clash of Clans website. Neither that site nor the Clash Royale site currently has a shop, but maybe that’s in the works soon, as IGN says this particular partnership has been percolating since last summer.

There also wasn’t a release date posted by them, so your guess is as good as mine as to when they might be available. But they are extremely cool, and if you have any love for the Clash games at all, you might want to start saving your spare change for these bad boys right now.

Assassin’s Creed movie gets ticket pre-orders, can go up to $1,200

10 Mar

Pre-orders have moved past the realm of video games.

assassins_creed_movie_1

Ubisoft has teamed up with a digital media site and toy manufacturers to put together a few pre-order packages for the upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie.

All options include a ticket to go see the movie, of course, along with other extras such as a t-shirt, a hidden blade toy, a hoodie, a statue, or a crossbow replica.

These packages start at $15 and can go all the way up to a ridiculous $1,200.

The Assassin’s Creed movie will open in December.

NECA Toys director casually lets slip that Crash Bandicoot is coming back

14 Feb

While we can’t take this as an absolute confirmation that there’s a new game coming out, it looks like Sony is bringing back Crash Bandicoot in one form or another.

The potential-reveal occurs at around the 4:10 mark of the video from PixelDan Eardley above, as NECA Toys toy director Randy Falk talks about their PlayStation line of toys.

After showing off figures from LittleBigPlanet, Uncharted 4 and God of War, Falk tells Eardley “looking at some of their other titles…I see they’re bringing Crash Bandicoot back, which is really cool”.

Of course, Activision still own the rights to Crash Bandicoot, but there have been other hints that something is brewing over at Sony. A week ago, the Middle Eastern PlayStation Twitter account tweeted out a ‘Wanted’ poster for Crash, asking where he is.

Hopefully we’ll hear something more definitive soon.

Halo 5, The Witcher 3, Game of Thrones collectibles coming soon from Dark Horse

12 Feb

Dark Horse will be offering collector’s a chance to get their hands on new replica ships based on Halo 5 and a really handsome Geralt figurine.

GroupShotHalo.161556

Halo 5: Guardians fans can purchase one of three polyresin six-inch ship replicas sometime this summer.

The first to be released will be the stealth UNSC Prowler, followed by the Covenant Banshee and the first Forerunner vehicle in the line, the Phaeton.

In May, a replica of the UNSC Pillar of Autumn will be made available and if you’re more into reading stead of collecting, the graphic novel Halo: Fall of Reach will be released in spring 2016.

Dark Horse will also introduce a high-end product line based on The Witcher debuting this fall. The items will span statues, busts, and action figures. Also on offer will be prop and jewelry replicas along with barware, stationery, and other collectibles.

Figures of Geralt, Ciri, Yen, and others are also in the works. Gerlat, Triss, and Yennefer will be first out and by Ciri and the Wild Hunt King, Eredin will follow.

Each will be designed to the character’s likeness, custom painted, and displayed in deluxe window box packaging for $29.99.

Finally, if your fan of the Game of Thrones franchise, Dark Horse will release an 8-inch figurine of Night King, the leader of the White Walkers. The scary fell is the 24th figure in the series and is slated for in-store release in September for $24.99.

Here are some other Game of Thrones figures coming this fall: Ygritte, Margaery Tyrell, Oberyn Martell, Grey Worm, and Varys.

Titanfall 2 due out in 2016, according to toymaker

11 Feb

Titanfall 2 is going to get an officially-licensed line of action figures, and it’s coming this year.

titanfall_3

EA has yet to announce a date for Titanfall 2, though it did confirm the game is releasing before March 2017. According to toy manufacturer McFarlane, however, it’s coming this winter.

The toymaker announced a new licensing deal (via ToyArk) that would allow it to release a new set of action figures in conjunction with the game’s release.

The company did not show any concept designs, but the official product page clearly mentions a winter 2016 release. The new figures will be seven-inches tall, and come in the company’s new collector box design.

When contacted by Gamespot, the publisher said, “MacFarlane Toys will be releasing toys inspired by Titanfall in Winter of 2016.

“We have yet to provide a release date for the next Titanfall experience from Respawn.”

E3 this year should be a good place for an announcement in either case.

Barbie’s chosen career for 2016 is game development

29 Jan

There’s a new game developer in town, and her name is Barbie.

16_01_08_MATL_0141_WEBSITE_DESKTOP_TABBED_IMAGE01_V03_IG_tcm718-117865

Each year, the doll takes on a new specialization. The woman has over “150 careers on her resume,” spanning from registered nurse to rock star, veterinarian to CEO, pilot to presidentail candidate and everything in between.

This year, her chosen field is game development. Toy maker Mattel announced the doll would arrive in stores this summer.

As you can see in the image above, she sports knock ’em dead red hair, matching glasses, skinny jeans and what appear to be lace-up deck tennies.

Barbie also has a laptop, but we’re unsure whether that blue pillar comes with her or not. Kids may have to just set it on a Barbie table or something. Imagination is key after all.

As Polygon reports, this isn’t Barbie’s first foray into the tech field. In 2010, the picture book “Barbie I Can Be a Computer Engineer” was published.

In it Barbie had an idea for a video game, but since she couldn’t make it herself, she enlisted the help of Steven and Brian as she focused on design ideas.

The book was pulled by Mattel after complaints surfaced in late 2014 over Barbie’s interactions in the book. Apparently, she wasn’t the computer engineer she was made out to be by the title as she couldn’t code.

Mattel said going forward it would make sure girls who played with Barbie were “empowered to understand that anything is possible and believe they live in a world without limits.”

All that aside, she is a game developer this year, and hopefully she’ll develop a really awesome RPG with dragons. We like dragons.

Shovel Knight amiibo gets release date, price, more details

4 Dec

The Shovel Knight amiibo is coming next year in North America and next week in Europe.

shovel_knight_amiibo_wide_wii_u_1

Nintendo and Yacht Club have announced that the Shovel Knight amiibo, one of the few amiibos for non-Nintendo properties, is coming out December 11 in Europe, and January 8 in North America. The reason for the delay in North America is due to the developer choosing to wait and ship a good number of them, rather than ship a small one before Christmas.

The studio also recommended not importing and holding off until the amiibo is released in your region, because it won’t work across regions.

On either the Wii U or 3DS, scanning the amiibo on the level map screen unlocks a custom knight with more customisation options. In addition, on Wii U, you can scan your amiibo to join a friend in co-op, including two custom knights or any other combination.

The game’s Challenge Mode also gets new content when you scan the amiibo. Namely, exclusive stages that take advantage of the custom knight’s abilities, as well as ten new challenges, five solo and five others for co-op.

The Shovel Knight amiibo is priced $12.99, £10.99, and €14,99.

Finally, catch the announcement trailer below, and visit the studio’s blog for even more details.
