The PlayStation Critic’s Choice sale discounts last year’s best games

21 Feb

The PlayStation Store has a sale on some of the previous year’s strongest titles. Think of it as being like the Oscars, except you’re the only winner.

playstation_store_wide_header_1

The Critic’s Choice sale, which is currently live on the US store (but not yet here in Australia, it seems), cuts the prices of a whole heap of games. Few of these price cuts are super dramatic, but you can still save big on some great titles (I’m inclined to grab Darkest Dungeon at that price).

A few pre-2016 titles pop up in here as well, including Diablo 3, Life is Strange, and most of the games in the PS3 sale.

For the prices below, the numbers in bold are the price for PlayStation Plus subscribers, while the numbers in front of them are for non-subscribers.

Those who live in Europe will be able to enjoy a free multiplayer period from February 22-26.

Sadly, it’s not as long of a period as North America gets, but it’s free.

LittleBigPlanet 3 and Not A Hero head PlayStation Plus February line-up

1 Feb

There’s a couple of nice Cross-Buy titles on offer as well, according to both the North American and EU PS Blog.

As you noted by the headline, PlayStation 4 titles LittleBigPlanet 3 and Not a Hero are both part of the February PlayStation Plus line-up. But there’s more.

PS3 users can download narrative, psychological horror puzzler Anna: Extended Edition as well as Cross-Buy (PS4) title Starwhal. The latter is a local multiplayer space fighting game starring Narwhals, of course. It’s rather popular on Steam.

There are also two PS Vita titles with PS4 Cross-Buy: action-platformer Ninja Senki DX and TorqueL, a 2D “rolling” & “extend” platformer- action puzzle game.

January 2017 free PlayStation Plus games revealed, PS4 players get four games

3 Jan

The games PlayStation Plus members are getting for free this month.

Sony unveiled the list of free PlayStation Plus games for January 2017 a few days after we went on holiday, but we have returned to get you all caught up on all necessary details.

First up, on PS4 we have Day of the Tentacle Remastered, which also supports cross-buy with PS Vita. This War of Mine: The Little Ones is the other PS4 freebie.

That’s not all, though, thanks to some of the Vita and PS3 games supporting cross-buy, PS4 owners get two extra games. These will be The Swindle, available on all three, and Titan Souls, available on PS4 and Vita.

Blazerush is the PS3-only game of choice this month, and Azkend 2 is PS Vita’s.

As ever, the games will be available when the store updates in your region. Until then, you can make sure you picked up December’s haul.

PlayStation Experience 2016 kicks off today – watch all announcements here via the livestream

3 Dec

Hello PlayStation fans. Tune in with us to watch the PlayStation Experience 2016 main presentation live from sunny Anaheim, California.

As usual, we will be covering the main showcase, which starts at 10am PT/1pm ET/6pm UK.

Along with the keynote, viewers at home can expect plenty of gameplay demos to be streamed live, and there are six developer panels planned, three of which will take place today, December 3. PSX 2016 also runs through Sunday, December 4 which is when the other three panels take place.

We will post the schedule for you and the stream embed in another post.

Today, we expect some game reveals, new footage of upcoming games, some PlayStation VR goodness and other fun video game things.

Those attending PSX 2016 will be able try plenty of games thanks to the large number of publishers and developers attending the event.

Bungie is headed to the show, per a tweet from DeeJ, so it’s possible we can expect some nice nuggets of information for aspiring Iron Lords.

Another announcement could be the the rumored Uncharted 4 DLC, possibly some Final Fantasy 15 info even though it’s not listed as playable on the show floor.

Horizon Zero Dawn information is a given, and we expect some Days Gone and God of War goodness.

It would be grand if some Final Fantasy 7 Remake details were handed out, but we won’t hold our breath on that.

Quantic Dream is working on Detroit: Become Human, so it could also make an appearance and even Media Molecule’s PS4 exclusive Dreams. We’d like to see a bit more on Rayman creator Michael Ancel’s Wild, as it tickles our fancy a bit. We’d like to hear more about What Remains of Edith Finch from Giant Sparrow which recently gained a publisher through Megan Ellison’s film production company, Annapurna.

It’s also possible we’ll see more on Rainbow 6 Siege, Resident Evil 7, Star Wars Battlefront Rogue One: Scarif and The Last Guardian. Maybe even some major news on Shenmue 3 will drop since information on the game has been rather barren of late. But with Ys Net deep in development, that’s to be expected.

Whatever the case, there will be plenty of news out of the show if previous years are any indication.

psx_2016_main_art

PSX is also playing host to the Capcom Cup 2015. It takes place Sunday, December 6 and features 32 Street Fighter players going head-to-head to take home a portion of the $250,000 prize pool. The grand prize is a whopping $125,000.

You can watch the feed live for it on Twitch or on YouTube.

So, join us for the main presentation today. Again, it starts at 10am PT/1pm ET/6pm UK and we expect it to last anywhere from one to one and a half hours. The YouTube embed is above, but it’s also available to watch through Twitch.

As usual, all news will be posted on the site and we will cap the day off with a nice round up post, because things tend to get lost on the front page during events.

Costume Quest 2 is a rather fun game, too, and if you are interested in doing tricks on bikes, or participating in rally racing, looks like you’re covered.

Add PlayStation Network to the list of outages today due to the DDoS attack

21 Oct

Even though outages seemed to slow a bit earlier this morning, issues are arising once again.

psn_down_area_102116-png

PlayStation Network users are experiencing issues connecting to the service because of the attack, according to GamesRadar, referencing tweets sent out by Sony.

The tweet was sent a few hours ago, and ad of press time, issues are still being reported per the PlayStation Network status page. Looking at the outage map on DownDetector.com, various comments from users state the service is back up in their area, but not everywhere.

DDoS attacks targeting internet company Dyn started this morning on the East Coast, and the firm thought the issue was resolved, but another wave is underway, and it’s the third today, according to CNBC.

A look at the widespread outages from this morning is below.

Other companies affected are Twitter, Spotify, Amazon Cloud PayPal and Netflix.

The Department of Homeland Security is on the case, per Reuters, and the list of sites and services having issues today, per DownDectector is rather long. Whether all of those companies were affected by this particular attack is unknown.
