Latest Conan Exiles patch contains some nice fixes, but it broke waterskins

16 Feb

If you have been on a short break from Conan Exiles, you should know a patch was issued yesterday. It fixed quite a few things, but also broke a rather important item: the waterskin.

The patch notes on Steam main mention of various fixes being applied to the loading screens and server performance, and NPCs in Conan Exiles should also be “less jittery” when rotating.

However, along with those welcome fixes, some known issues have occurred with the update in the process.

One is the aforementioned waterskin which can no longer be filled at a nearby river once the patch is applied.

It can still be filled from a well, so hopefully you aren’t far from one. Funcom said it currently investigating the issue.

Other issues include inventory issues which can be solved upon relogging, and it seems issues are also being reported with explosive jars and jump “boosting”. Also, foundations and placeables no longer have a a visible preview when in single player/local mode. Dedicated multiplayer servers aren’t experiencing this issue, it seems.

Here’s more known issues currently being addressed:

  • Looting several bags with “Loot All” causes items to disappear.
  • Dropping multiple items into a bag causes items to be invisible.
  • Dismantling crafting stations with items in them will sometimes not drop a loot bag. Other times, a small lootbag will drop, which grows in size once players interact with it.

Now that the known issues are out of the way, you can look over the latest patch notes below.

Performance and Tech fixes

  • Fixes to loading screens
  • Server performance fixes
  • NPCs should be less jittery when rotating
  • Fix for connecting to servers via the Steam server browser and when using Steamconnect
  • Buildings should now load in much faster
  • Placeables placed on foundations and ceiling tiles are now saved correctly
  • Several improvements to how rocks behave when they are harvested

General Bug Fixes and Improvements

  • Small Placeables no longer claim land
  • NPC camps now have their own land claim zone to prevent people from building so close to them that they stop spawning NPCs
  • You should no longer get phantom duplicates in the wheel of pain
  • T2 Altars should no longer disappear after a server crash
  • Surrender should no longer break early when using fists
  • Removed invisible collision that was blocking a certain chest in the world
  • Arrows no longer shoot in “Random crazy directions”
  • Ranged weapons should now always fire correctly
  • Rhinos should no longer try to walk through players
  • Palisades now correctly deal damage on contact
  • Palisades should now be easier to place
  • Fixed a case where players were able to destroy rocks with their fists. Sorry, but this privilege is reserved only for Conan himself.
  • Fixed an issue where interactable objects would spam “Press E to interact” on the GUI
  • Added a directional arrow to many Placeables to help players orient them correctly
  • The Offering of Mitra recipe now correctly requires 1 human heart and 1 unblemished meat
  • Fixed an issue with stair placement detection
  • Gongs and Horns are now audible over greater distances
  • Added new emotes that can be learned by tracking down Story NPCs and getting them to teach you

Balance and Gameplay Fixes

  • Some skill requirements have been simplified or removed. For example, it is now possible to learn Journeyman Craftsman as soon as you hit level 10. Due to the impact of this change all players have gotten a free skill respec.
  • Ansel now respects collision, preventing people from moving through walls and other structures
  • Non Admins are restricted to 2 meters of movement when using Ansel
  • We have done an overhaul on what monsters can damage which tier of buildings. If you haven’t upgraded from sandstone you might want to think about doing that.
  • Increased crafting XP across the board with greater increases for crafting more complex (higher tier) items
  • Inverted Wooden Roof Wedge and Stonebrick Frame now require Journeyman Craftsman instead of Master Craftsman
  • Black rocks in the starting desert are now harvestable
  • Higher grade tools now yields greater amounts of secondary resources (Bark/branches)
  • Resetting your Knowledge Points no longer causes you to lose your selected religion
  • Removed Corruption sources from starting area caves
  • Removed the Regen component from Purified Meat. This perk is reserved to Mitra’s Ambrosia and Healing Potions. Purified Meat is still an extremely good food source
  • Player corpses can only be harvested for religious purposes once every 30 minutes
  • Balance pass on the amount of materials requires for basic chemistry potions
  • Armor drops removed from chests
  • Emus now give less XP

Balance pass on Bows

  • Simple Bow range has been increased
  • Hyrkanian Bow range has been dramatically increased
  • Crossbow range has been reduced but they now shoot much faster

Visual Improvements

  • The Dogs of the Desert finally got their uniform shipment and are now donning their new outfits
  • Visual adjustment to the Medium Tasset to reduce clipping issues
  • Visual adjustments to the Setite Choker and Shendyt to reduce clipping issues
  • Updated Cutlass and Falcata icons
  • Visual flair added to several hairstyles
  • Visual improvements to female heads

Conan Exiles sold 320,000 copies its first week, servers coming back, mod tools go live

10 Feb

That’s quite a bit of Conan Exiles news in one headline, isn’t it?

conan_exiles (5)

Funcom announced the sales figures for Conan Exiles this morning, along with the release of modding tools and news on the return of official servers.

During its first week, the open-world, multiplayer survival game sold 320,000 copies, and has also dominated the Steam’s Global Top Seller List. It went into early access on the service January 30.

“We are deeply humbled and very grateful for the initial success of Conan Exiles,” said Funcom CEO Rui Casais in the press release. “Funcom has gone through some challenging times in recent years and seeing the game we have poured so much time and effort into gain this amount of traction so quickly is very invigorating for everyone who works here.

“This is just the start of the Early Access adventure and we will do whatever it takes to make sure Conan Exiles turns into a fully-fledged game that has something to offer new and old fans of both Conan and survival games.”

Get your modding on

Back in January, the studio announced it would release the custom Conan Exiles Dev Kit, which would allow folks to create mods for the game.

Modders will need to download the Epic Games launcher, and once created, the mods can be uploaded to the Steam Workshop. To get the launcher, head over to the Unreal Engine website, click the button that says “Get Unreal”, and under the “Get Unreal Engine” hit the download button.

According to Funcom, the kit will allow creators to make “small changes and quality of life improvements,” total conversion mods, add additional creatures, characters, and worlds.

Official servers going back online

Due to issues with lag and server crashes, last week, the developer took the official multiplayer servers offline for Conan Exiles.

Because of the influx of players and the “overwhelming demand,” PingPerfect’s hardware was unable to handle the load, so Funcom dissolved the partnership. The firm started searching for a hosting company which could deliver “the level of quality and service” required.

It seems a new partner has been found, because new official servers are now coming online. Alternatively, players can still log into one of the 12,000 privately run servers if preferred.

The team has been working since launch to iron out the teething issues, resulting in the game being patched many times over the past two weeks.

Going forward, the Conan Exiles team will be divided into two groups: one will focus on fixing issues and optimizing performance, and the other will work on adding new content and features.

Conan Exiles is in development for PC,PS4 and Xbox One.

It will also be made available as an Xbox One Game Preview title in the spring , with PlayStation 4 planned for a later date.

Conan Exiles aims for “the line between Skyrim and Minecraft”, genital slider about “equality and all that”

7 Feb

Conan Exiles doesn’t want to be a crafting survival clone, but to present a unique world influenced by its source material.

Conan Exiles developer Funcom participated in a Reddit AMA over the weekend to answer burning questions about the Early Access title everyone was talking about last week.

Naturally, the top question was about the game’s nudity and male genital sliders, which has resulted in some hilarious Conan Exiles GIFs of ballsacks flapping about.

“We discussed nudity early on and decided that for the lore and setting, nudity was something we wanted to go with,” Funcom said.

“The slider was a natural evolution of that, especially seeing we had a similar slider for breasts. Equality and all that.”

But Conan Exiles isn’t supposed to be just that game famous for people running around without their underoos. Funcom said its vision for the game is to “find the line between Skyrim and Minecraft”.

We want to have a game where NPCs inhabit a living, breathing world, but where players make a real impact on the environment and become a part of that world.”

“We want to have a game where NPCs inhabit a living, breathing world, but where players make a real impact on the environment and become a part of that world. Through the thrall system we hope to introduce complex behaviours that allow you to build your own cities and towns and as we add features such as the Purge, we are going to be trying to create a dynamic world that challenges your right to survive.”

Asked for more details, Funcom said it wants NPCs to follow schedules and to remember their relationships to players. This includes thralls, who will be able to be employed as mercenaries if rescued, rather than enslaved, if you prefer.

As for what makes Conan Exiles stand out from other survival crafting sandboxes like Ark: Survival Evolved, Rust and DayZ, Funcom said “close quarters melee, sorcery, fatalities, lore, thralls, religion and avatars etc”.

“Plus the Conan world is an interesting place, above and beyond just being a random map,” the spokesperson added.

Here are a few things Funcom assured Conan Exiles players would be improved or implemented during Early Access:

There were a couple of questions about Conan Exiles migrating to new servers after the original platform couldn’t handle demand. Funcom said all player progress will be retained in the move, and reiterated that demand surprised it.

“We didn’t expect the demand we have received. Can’t comment on specific numbers due to public company rules etc,” Funcom said.

“We stress tested the game with 70 plus people on external (not our own) hardware multiple times. We never dropped below 10 server frames which we deemed acceptable performance for a full load server. We did not see the issues that the official servers were seeing.

“We have, however, launched multiplayer games before so we know that when you go to scale, things can go wrong. See Diablo 3 for an example of a very well prepared company that still got caught unawares by demand. That was also a part of our decision to do early access, so we can have a more understanding audience who will work with us to improve any issues we have.”

There’s plenty more about Conan Exiles in the full Q&A, so hit the source link above for all the details.

Conan Exiles Official Servers Temporarily Shutdown As Funcom Ends Partnership With Hosting Company

6 Feb

Conan Exiles hasn’t had the fun launch which fans or Funcom might have hoped for. Thankfully that might change soon as developers announced some changes to Conan Exiles official servers. According to Funcom, the system requirements for Conan Exiles official servers are a bit too high and their current server partner was unable to properly […]

Official Conan Exiles servers temporarily shuttered while Funcom searches for service with “ideal hardware”

4 Feb

Those experiencing lag playing early access title Conan Exiles will be pleased to know more is being done to fix the issue, which will hopefully ease frustrations a bit. Unfortunately, this means the official multiplayer servers have had to be temporarily taken offline.

conan_exiles (2)

When Conan Exiles released through Steam Early Access earlier this week, Funcom limited the online game to 100 public servers. The number was upped to 200 in order to help ease server strain, but it didn’t seem to help matters.

Due to the issues, the partnership between Funcom and PingPerfect, which hosted the official multiplayer servers, has been dissolved.

“Unfortunately, due to the overwhelming demand for servers and our needs for administrating them, our official partner has been unable to deliver the level of quality and service we require,” said Funcom on Steam. “Because of this, we have mutually agreed to end the partnership.

“We are in the process of finding new partners with the ideal hardware we can move the existing game databases to. However, due to the high demand for Conan Exiles servers, many hosting companies are simply out of the hardware that we need and as such this process might take a few days.”

In other words, the official servers have been taken offline, and players will need to continue playing on one of the 7,500 privately run servers available. These can be found when looking over the Options menus and clicking on Server Settings GUI.

“We sincerely apologize to everyone who has played and made progress on the official servers, but we think it is better to deal with this problem now rather than later.”

Funcom said it’s keeping the game databases from the old servers and plan to re-implement them when the new servers roll out. This includes characters, buildings, progression and more.

The teams has already released several patches, and the next update is in the works. The current focus is on the most pressing issues such as rubberbanding, disconnects, and other server related issues. Once that is “under control,” the team will start “looking closer at gameplay improvements” as well as new content and features.

Conan Exiles is currently without a release date, and upon being finished, it’s slated to arrive on Xbox One and PS4.

This spring, it will be released through the Xbox One Game Preview program.

Conan Exiles Cracked After Denuvo Removal

3 Feb

Funcom’s latest update for its famous open-world survival game has caused the team a little trouble, as it accidentally removed Denuvo. As a result, the game has been pirated in one day and there are a lot of Conan Exiles Cracked copies online. Something similar happened to Resident Evil 7, when a group of hackers managed […]

Conan Exiles’ Early Access servers are taking the strain, limited to 100 public servers on release

31 Jan

Funcom creating tags so you can find the right community to play with; private servers available from the get go.

Conan Exiles has gone live via Steam’s Early Access service today and it’s already proving popular, putting a strain on servers at launch.

The survival game has 100 public servers live and hosted by Pingperfect, each with the capacity to host 70 players in total. Funcom has said it will increase this throughout the Early Access period.

There are two types of public servers: Blitz, which reset after 30 days, and default servers that will not be wiped.

Funcom has also created a number of tags on the Early Access servers too, so you can find the right community of players for you. They are; Purist, Relaxed, Hardcore, Roleplaying and Experimental.

Developer Funcom has said it’s working on fixes to enable players to access the game today, and asking for a little patience as well as offering a smidgen of advice to Early Access players.

Conan Exiles also supports private servers, which Early Access players can find via Options > Server Settings GUI. It’s here you can enable PvP gameplay, turn the sandstorm on and off, decide what players lose when they die, as well as full access to the admin panel for a lot more control.

Conan Exiles Early Access servers are open right now, here’s another trailer since you can’t get enough of it

31 Jan

Conan Exiles has arrived on Early Access. Oh you already knew? But you’re clicking anyway? Amazing.

Conan Exiles is going off, isn’t it? It’s been all over Twitch and Twitter today, even though it only officially opens its doors like, right now.

Is it the classic low fantasy setting? The promise of a new Funcom multiplayer game with player creation and survival aspects? The numerous flapping cock and balls GIFs doing the rounds? Who knows! All we know is, Conan Exiles is officially Hot Stuff.

Whatever your reason for desperately wanting in, you don’t need an invite code any more; if you want to play Conan Exiles and help Funcom shape it ahead of full release, you may do so immediately. Simply buy your way in via Steam for $30; the servers are online now.

Conan Exiles is also coming to PS4 and Xbox One, although the mod and private server support makes the PC version sound pretty attractive – especially if you don’t want to wait out the ports.

Conan Exiles supports single-player for those after a solo experience, allows you to build cities and knock down anything that displeases you, and encourages you to trample your way to dominance of the game world through might, preferably over a mountain of your enemy’s skulls. It’s hard not to like the sound of, hey.

Conan Exiles is full of flapping dicks and ballsacks, and you can pick your size

31 Jan

Conan Exiles for game of the year, every year. Ding dong merrily on high! NSFW, obviously.

Conan Exiles is generating a lot of hype as Early Access marketing goes for broke, but for some reason Funcom and its PR team failed to mentioned this amazing feature in any press releases sent to us: customisable, full-physics genitals.

In a full report over on PC Gamer, editor Chris Livingstone details the dong slider in Conan Exiles’ character customisation screen – even providing a GIF of the customisation in action, which he kindly gave us permission to share.

As if this weren’t enough to elevate Conan Exiles to the ranks of the best cocks in video games, Funcom has also implemented physics.

The physics are active all the time, and since you spend the beginning of Conan Exiles in the nude, you’ll see a lot of them as you run about. Via Destructoid, here’s PC World‘s Hayden Dingman practicing squats, an image he seemed pleased to allow us to present to you.

Wangs (or other forms of genitals) are rarely implemented in video games, but there have been exceptions. Some highlights include The Order: 1886, which features a couple of flapping tonkers, although you need to turn the brightness up to see them in all their glory. Loadout had dick physics, but covered the area with a mosaic, and Rust randomises dick size, along with other avatar characteristics, based on Steam ID.

In other video game weiner news, LEGO waged a lengthy battle against jonhsons and a contractor once slipped a bunch of pricks into State of Decay. These are the articles that stick in my memory.

A couple more delightful Conan Exiles meat-and-two-veg GIFs can be found through the links above.

Conan Exiles players can control towering gods, use them to destroy cities and crush enemies

21 Jan

Conan Exile will go into Early Access on Steam in less than two weeks, and Funcom has provided a new trailer and some new information on the game ahead of time.

In the game, players will start off as a condemned exile who is being crucified in the desert. The venerable Conan himself cuts you down, but you cannot join him on his journey. Instead, you will need to try and survive in the Exiled Lands.

A serpent bracelet adorns the player’s wrist, and will kill them if trying to cross the magical, Cursewall barrier surrounding the Exiled Lands. The player will also be in the dark regarding who placed the bracelet on them and the reason why they were exiled. Hopefully, the player will be able to unravel the mystery at some point.

As the player explores, they will find many other exiles in the land which have formed factions. Here is where survival of the fittest takes over, and players will need to form alliances or dominate others in order to survive.

In the newest video for Conan Exiles posted above, you’ll get a look at how players will dominate through war and brutality. What else would one expect from a game based on the Conan the Barbarian universe? For example: the fatality system allows players to “slice each other in half” and even see their own head “rolling away from them.” Awesome.

While residing in the Exiled Lands, players will be tasked with building cities and fortresses to claim land, and to help defend their settlements, they will need to capture thralls defend their settlements and act as fodder for enemies who try to claim the territory for themselves.

Players can also create special weapons and armor, build altars to their god and bring them sacrifices to appease them. Should they earn the blessings of their god, the player will be able to summon and take direct control of “huge, towering avatars” of the gods. These can roam the world and crush buildings and unfortunate souls under their weight.

Several countermeasures against avatars will be available, and players can also choose to run and play on servers without avatars if they wish.

Speaking of servers, the system allows players to join other on private and public servers in either multiplayer or local single-player. That’s pretty great.

The system allows users to host a local game, play online through an official server hosted by Funcom, play online through a server hosted by someone else, set up dedicated servers or rent one through Funcom’s official server partner PingPerfect.

To find a server which fits a preferred playstyle, a Community Filter option is available to players when they first start the game, featuring categories such as hardcore, role-play, casual, and other.

A server control system is available to those who choose to run their own, and allows then to alter aspects such as toggling PvP, turning off avatars, disabling sandstorms, control the day/night cycle, resource yield, and tons more. These settings can be made on the fly by the server admin, and many won’t require a server restart.

Also, Conan Exiles will feature full mod support on PC and the plan is to make mods available at the start of Early Access.

Mods can be created through the available custom Unreal Engine editor, and will allow modders to create new monsters and items, change the gameplay and more. The mod management tool also connects to the Steam Workshop.

You can find out more on server settings and mod support through a developer blog.

Conan Exiles will enter Early Access on PC on January 31. It will be available as an Xbox One Game Preview title in the spring with PlayStation 4 planned for a later date.

Watch how easy it is to build cities in Conan Exiles and how destructible everything can be

6 Jan

Watch how Conan Exiles will handle player-made cities and the systems it offers to build, attack, and defend them.

Ahead of the game’s Steam Early Access launch later this month, Conan Exiles developers at Funcom have released a new video to showcase one more aspect of the upcoming survival game.

Today’s video is a look at player cities, and the tools at their disposal to build and defend them. Attacking other player’s cities is another thing the game allows, and there’s a number of ways you can bring ruin to other player’s creations.

Creative director Joel Bylos and lead designer Oscar Lopez Lacalle go on to demo the free-form building tool, and how basses can eventually grow out to form a community for players. Exiles definitely looks more polished than your typical multiplayer survival/crafting sim.

Funcom also released an infographic that summaries the building mechanics available, from resource gathering and the different building tiers, all the way to house decorations.

Finally, the studio will be hosting a livestream later today on Twitch to give everyone an extended look at the crafting and building in the game. The show kicks off at 10am PT / 1am ET / 6pm GMT the official Twitch channel.

Conan Exiles will be released on Steam Early Access January 31, and sometime in the spring for Xbox One

Conan Exiles video shows you how to survive in the game’s brutal world

8 Dec

Funcom has released a new development video for its open-world survival game Conan Exiles.

In it, members of the development team outline what you will need to survive the brutal world of Conan the Barbarian.

The studio has also sent over an informative image with subjects such as hunting and gathering, protecting oneself, progression, crafting, enemy players and monsters.

Conan Exiles will go into Early Access on Steam January 31.

It will also arrive on Xbox One through the Game Preview program in spring 2017.

Conan Exiles has a new gameplay trailer, Steam Early Access release date

22 Nov

Conan Exiles finally has a launch date on Steam Early Access.

Funcom has announced that Conan Exiles, the open-world survival game based on Conan the Barbarian world, will launch on Steam Early Access on January 31. A release on Xbox One Game Preview will follow sometime in the spring.

The brutal and barbaric dark fantasy adventures in the Robert E. Howard books seem like the perfect setting for this type of game. Exiles can played in single-player as well as multiplayer, on either local or public servers.

Though it does share a few things with top games in the genre like Ark and Rust, the game has a few unique features of its own such as scarifying enemies, summoning massive gods, and similar, Conan-inspired elements.

It’s been a while since Funcom released footage of the game, too. After recently revealing updated the graphics and art direction, the new trailer above shows decent progress.

The footage is captured from the PC versions, and shows off a decent chunk of the things you’ll be able to go in the game come January.

A full release has yet to be dated.

Conan Exiles graphics, art direction, more features updated ahead of Early Access

15 Nov

Conan Exiles will be available through Early Access in just two months, and to give you a look at what to expect, Funcom has released a bevy of screenshots and new information.

There are two sets of screenshots in the galleries below. One shows standard in-game shots, and the other provides a look at the game’s use of Nvidia’s Ansel 360° screencap technology.

Funcom also revealed it made significant changes to the game over the last few months since it released the first look at Alpha gameplay. The team has improved graphical fidelity, art direction, and added points of interest to the environment.

In addition to updating the game’s look, more creatures, tools, items, and lore have been added. Furnaces, tanning benches and other crafting machines have been implemented to expand the crafting feature and significant changes to were made to combat to make it feel more “responsive and impactful.”

Funcom also motion captured and reworked some of the character animation as it didn’t feel things were “up to snuff in its original state.” The thrall system was also recently implemented and is working as intended.

The studio has also localized Conan Exiles to support 11 languages: English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese.

In-game screenshots

The open-world, multiplayer survival title also makes use of Nvidia’s Ansel technology which allowed Funcom to add a “free-floating, in-game camera” for the perfect screenshots. It also add filters and various effects, and the shots can be viewed in VR.

Shots of the game using Ansel tech are below, but note they needed to be re-sized as the screens were 18MB in size or over.

Conan Exiles is still on track for its January 2017 Early Access release, and the developers said they still have a “few tricks left up our sleeves.” More of the game will be shown in next two months leading up to its release through Steam Early Access.

Funcom announced the game back in January and promised it would be true to the books in the sense that it’s a violent world.

A firm release date outside of the Early Access windows hasn’t been provided.
