Dawn of War 3 gets suitably epic story trailer, confirms Spear of Khaine is involved

17 Feb

The conflict wrapped up in the story of Dawn of War 3 becomes clear.

Relic has released a new trailer for Dawn of War 3, the first in a long while. It’s called Prophecy of War and is very much story-focused.

The prophecy in question is cited at the start of trailer, as Farseer Taldeer outlines the main story setup that will bring all three races to war. The Spear of Khaine is the impetus behind the events this time around, though not much else is known.

Farseer Taldeer’s prophecy is ominous though, as these usually tend to be. Gabriel Angelos, Farseer Macha, and Gorgutz are all here, and they all seem to be fighting enemies within their ranks, as well as each other.

Alongside the new trailer, Relic also put out a call to action themed around each of the three factions. These videos show a bit more gameplay, and highlight what the Space Marines, Eldar, and Orks are each fighting for.

Dawn of War 3 comes out this year on PC.

Learn more about what goes into creating the story and cinematics in Dawn of War 3.

The story in the Dawn of War games has always been an integral part of the experience, and Dawn of War 3 looks to be following in the same footsteps.

In the latest developer diary, Dawn of War 3 game director Phillip Boulle and art director Matt Kuzminski talk in-depth about where each of the three factions fits in the game’s story. The video goes on to outline the key elements of the game’s cinematics as well, and the message each of them sends.

We also learn a little bit about the setup that brings the Space Marines, Orks, and Eldar to the fight this time around. There are different motivations for each faction, though not much about those has been revealed.

As for the cinematics themselves, art director Matt Kuzminski refers to them as “animatics”, indicating they may not be the traditional pre-rendered CG we see in a lot of games.

Dawn of War 3 is out in 2017 on PC.

Dawn of War 3 footage is our first look at the Ork faction

Dawn of War 3’s Orks look as intimidating/amusing as ever.

Dawn of War 3 developer Relic has showed off the Ork faction for the first time in new footage, as part of IGN First.

In the video above, we get to see the angry, greenskined mob pit their mostly rusty, scrappy mechanical units against the technologically superior Eldar. The video is made up entirely of gameplay footage, with no commentary. A couple of their units are on display, alongside some flashy attack animations.

We also get to see a little bit of their swarm tactics, which no doubt will come in handy when playing as them.

Dawn of War 3 – take a look at the first gameplay footage

Dawn of War 3 was first revealed a few short weeks ago. Now that E3 is underway, we get to see some gameplay.

The footage wasn’t shared through official channels. Instead, German site PC Games Hardware is hosting it as part of a preview.

The video is less than four minutes-long, and all commentary is in German, but we’ll take what we can get. According to translation from Reddit user Scrial, Dawn of War 3 will do away with the previous game’s cover system.

Though base building will return, don’t expect defensive structures and fortifications. Individual unit abilities are still a big focus, and so are large battles.

Take a look.

Dawn of War 3 may still be a ways off, but that doesn’t mean we can’t take a small peek.

Dawn of War 3 was announced yesterday with a very moody, epic trailer. The video was all CG, and judging by the fact that the game is due for release in 2017, it me be a while before we see gameplay.

We can, however, have a look at a couple of early in-game screenshots. Even though base-building will make a return in the sequel, the screenshots only show units going head-to-head.

Dawn of War announcement teased for tomorrow

Last year, the Dawn of War 3 domain was registered by Sega, and we’ve not heard a peep since.

Today, the above tweet was posted on the official Dawn of War Twitter account, alluding to an announcement of some kind tomorrow afternoon, at 3pm BST/ 7am PDT.

It’s been seven years since Dawn of War 2’s release, and the last major expansion, Retribution, dropped back in 2011. So it’s got be official confirmation of Dawn of War 3, right?

We’ll know more tomorrow, when the reveal is live on their YouTube channel.

Dawn of War 3 domain registered

Dawn of War 3 is a thing that should happen, so we’re glad to see it might be happening.

A Dawn of War 3 domain has been registered by Sega, Relic Entertainment’s parent company.

It may be a defensive registration, but Relic Entertainment has been pretty quiet since Company of Heroes 2, so a Dawn of War 3 announce seems quite reasonable.

Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War 2 came out in 2009 and the last major expansion, Retribution, released in early 2011. It certainly feels time for another go at it, doesn’t it?

You can go admire the WhoIs record for the new domain if you fancy. The URL is parked with a generic search page at the moment.

As a reminder, fellow Sega studio The Creative Assembly is currently working on Total War: Warhammer.

Sega Launched a New Dawn of War Website, Is it Time?

dawn of war
Sega recently has launched a new Dawn of War Website. While this isn’t so exciting on its own but lately the company has been updating their clients for old games on Steam and if the new forum and front page of the site are any indicators, then we might be hearing some exciting news pretty soon.

You can check out the new website for yourself here.

While it could just be a new look for the website but speculation for good doesn’t hurt, does it? So we can only hope a new Dawn of War title is in the works at Relic Entertainment.

The last Dawn of War title to come out was DoW II back in 2009 for Microsoft Windows PC.

The gameplay of the title was different in many ways for the original Dawn of War and the devs described the feel of the game by saying that the new title takes everything that was special about the first game and combined it with everything good about Company of Heroes and the end result was Dawn of War II.

If you haven’t played the game yet, the title is available on Steam for $19.99.

So what do you think? Do you want a new Dawn of War game or you have had enough already?
