Rock Band and Dance Central website servers attacked, users should change passwords

Harmonix has said its Rock Band and Dance Central website servers have suffered an “apparent attack,” and registered users will need to change their passwords just to be safe.

All the sites have been taken down at present while the firm tries to figure out how the invasion occurred. However, there’s no indication that any users information was compromised, but Harmonix is recommending anyone who registered on any of its present or past sites, and are using the same password elsewhere to change it for safety purposes.

Once the websites are back up and running, upon log-in users will be promoted to change their passwords before being allowed back in.

No person information containing numbers which can be used to defraud you are stored by Harmonix.

Take The Dance Central Fitness Challenge!

boomyWorksOutStriped.jpg Last Friday, Harmonix posted their first Dance Central Fitness Challenge Friday of 2013, getting everyone's New Year's resolution to shape up in gear. The "Get Low" Challenge contains songs that give you a really good lower body workout to strengthen your legs and build a foundation upon which you can build some amazing dancing skills. The blog post lists 26 songs spanning the games and their DLC, and all you have to do is make a custom playlist of 10 of your favorites (or the ones you actually have, since you may not own all of the DLC or the earlier games) and get to dancing. You can dance on Easy, Medium or Hard, but obviously Medium and Hard will give you the best workout. Do the whole playlist three times between the Friday they post the challenge and the following Friday when they post the next one. Part of me wishes that they would just update the game with a playlist you could just do, because having to make your own is kind of tedious. But when I was making mine, I appreciated being able to pick and choose from the songs I like better, so I wouldn't mind dancing to them. (Also, I could pick some easier ones!) Although I would also prefer a Harmonix playlist because then they would know that you were playing it, and could reward you with medals or something. Right now, you're on the honor system, because they have no idea. They suggest you let them know when you've completed the challenge by posting on the Dance Central Facebook page or on the forums or tweeting @Dance_Central on Twitter with the #DC3Fit hashtag. (You'll notice there was no tweeting yet from me as I've only done it once so far!) I really like this idea. It's a great way to keep the game different and unique and giving you a specific goal to work towards instead of just randomly dancing to songs or doing one of the pre-made fitness playlists. Variety is the spice of life! I'm going to try to remember to check the Dance Central site to get the list of songs for the new challenge every Friday... who else is with me?

Dance In The New Year!

Lady-Gaga-Paparazzi-Music-Video-Screencaps-lady-gaga-19388463-2048-1152.jpg
I know that I'm going to be spending Christmas Day with family, but when I get home in the evening, it's good to know that I'll be able to feel gay and merry with some new Dance Central 3 DLC! On Tuesday, December 25, you'll be able to download "Paparazzi" and "Alejandro" from Lady Gaga for 240 MP each, or 400 MP for the two-pack. I love "Paparazzi," but I'm less enthused about "Alejandro," but I'll probably still spring for the pack. Then, on New Year's Eve, Harmonix will release LMFAO's "Sorry for Party Rocking" for 240 MP, or in a pack with the previously-released "Party Rock Anthem" for 400 MP. I got the earlier track because it's that kind of cheesy fun song that's kind of catchy, and it's fun to dance to. But this one? Yeah, not a fan. Oh, and if it matters to you, "Paparazzi" is Tough difficulty, while "Alejandro" is Moderate, and both were chorographed by Marcos Auirre. And "Sorry for Party Rocking" is Legit difficulty and choreographed by Kunle Oladehin. Some new Dance Central songs will be just the thing to get moving and burning some calories after stuffing myself silly over the holidays! (Those Italian families know how to eat!)

Dance On The Cheap!

2Riptide.jpg If you're getting really desperate to play Dance Central 3, but can't wait until the October 16 release date to shake your ass to new tunes, Harmonix would like to ease your pain by offering up some massive Dance Central DLC discounts! All singles are discounted to 160 MS Points (down from 240), and you can get even better discounts on some song packs and bundles. It's literally everything, but if you're curious what the selection is like, you can click here, because I'm not going to list it all here! Sadly, I've pretty much bought all the songs I wanted to dance to when they first came out. With Rock Band, there were songs I was on the fence with, so I took advantage of the sale to pick up some of those. Here, I'm not sure what's left that I don't already have!

This is a week with a whole lot of complaining. Sorry. First, I go off on Tales of the Abyss' unhelpful manual and dead link for the online version (which now that I check again, is working...). When you've got a complicated RPG battle system with power-ups and whatnot, it's a good idea to give people a little idea of what the heck they're doing! Then it's on to music games, which have been really great with DLC of late, but it appears that my Rock Band drums have finally given up the ghost... Sigh...

August’s Dance Central DLC Gets Promiscuous

0748983f0017181d4b0c59d9.jpg After last month's tweenapolooza, I'm glad to see some tracks I'm actually interested in for the August Dance Central DLC. Harmonix released the plans for the whole month, and here they are: August 7 "Down on Me" by Jeremih ft. 50 Cent Difficulty: Moderate Choreographer: Marcos Aguirre August 14 "O.P.P." by Naughty by Nature Difficulty: Off The Hook Choreographer: Ricardo Foster Jr. August 21 "Let It Rock" by Kevin Rudolf ft. Lil' Wayne Difficulty: Tough Choreographer: Marcos Aguirre August 28 "Promiscuous" by Nelly Furtado ft. Timbaland Difficulty: Legit Choreographer: Devin Woolridge I'm off this week, but I'm definitely going to pick up the awesomely cheesy "O.P.P." next week, even at that difficulty level. I'm also excited for "Let it Rock" and I'll probably pick up "Promiscuous" if I'm in the mood... How about you? Any of these inspire you to lace up your boogie shoes?

This week I saw an awesome movie full of bad acting and amazing dancing, then introduced my friend to Dance Central. Next, I attended the Nintendo World Store launch of Kingdom Hearts 3D [Dream Drop Distance], which was way more popular than I'd expected. And to wrap up, I got a new game... but not Kingdom Hearts. Oh, and excuse the noise towards the end — the sky decided to open up and pour for a few minutes again. Summer showers, don't ya know!

Spice Up May With Dance Central 2 DLC!

Tomorrow, gay boys are going to have a field day when the new DLC song is released for Dance Central 2. That's right, "Spice Up Your Life" is out on Tuesday, May 8! And you can check out a quick preview of the choreography in the video above. The Spice Girls are kicking off the new slate of DLC for the best Kinect title out there to make sure you never ever stop playing. Here's what you can expect in the coming weeks (and it actually is weekly this month!): May 8 "Spice Up Your Life (Stent Radio Mix)" by Spice Girls Difficulty: Simple Choreographer: Marcos Aguirre May 15 "Hello Good Morning" by Diddy-Dirty Money ft. T.I. Difficulty: Legit Choreographer: Nick DeMoura May 22 "Scenario" by A Tribe Called Quest Difficulty: Legit Choreographer: Devin Woolridge May 29 "Low" by Flo Rida Difficulty: Moderate Choreographer: Chanel Thompson I am all over the Spice Girls track, but then I've gotta wait until the end of the month until they release Flo Rida's "Low." If they keep this up, I can totally make a Step Up dance playlist! (I like to pretend I'm in one of those movies. Don't judge me!)

April’s Dance Central DLC Is Hardcore!

Harmonix wants to make you sweat, because of the three songs being released as DLC for Dance Central in the month of April, two of them are Hardcore difficulty while the other is Tough. Keep a towel handy! April 10 "We No Speak Americano" by Yolanda Be Cool & DCUP Difficulty: Hardcore Choreographer: Ricardo Foster Jr. April 17 "Commander" by Kelly Rowland ft. David Guetta Difficulty: Hardcore Choreographer: Marcos Aguirre April 24 "Give Me Everything" by Pitbull ft. Ne-Yo, Afrojack & Nayer Difficulty: Tough Choreographer: Frenchy Hernandez I'm not really a big fan of any of these, but "We No Speak Americano" could be fun... We'll see...
