Overwatch in-universe “interview” with robotics genius Efi Oladele may provide hints to next hero

21 Feb

If Doomfist isn’t the next Overwatch hero, maybe 11-year-old robotics prodigy Efi Oladele can provide us with some sort of hint.

overwatch_efi

In the latest blog entry on the Overwatch website, an in-universe interview with Numbani native Efi Oladele has been posted.

According to the post (thanks PC Gamer), Efi Oladele won a genius grant from the Adawe Foundation for her work in artificial intelligence and robotics.

In the interview, Efi discusses how she became obsessed with creating small drones after receiving her first robotics kit. In the future, her goal is to “build something that can keep us safe, like the new OR15,” and as far as how she’s going to use the grant money, “it’s secret for now,” but she is “taking a trip to celebrate” her achievement first. And it will be her first time flying. We can only assume she will fly somewhere outside if the current Numbani locations in the game, but you never know with Blizzard.

Also, what is the OR15? Speculation is running all over the place on that end, but one interesting theory pointed out by reddit user andygb4 is rather intriguing.

As he points out, the third Doomfist in the poster which was shown in the original Overwatch cinematic has Omnic text underneath instead of the normal font on the other two.

“Maybe she builds a robot that eventually becomes Doomfist?,” he suggests.

doomfist_overwatch

If you aren’t familiar with Overwtach lore, an Omnic is a type of robot with artificial intelligence – both are subjects Efi seems to have plenty of knowledge on. Omnics were “originally designed and built by humans,” mostly notably the Omnica Corporation, to serve the economy. Eventually, the Omnic Crisis occurred when the machines became infected by God Programs, developed militarized Omnics of themselves and started attacking humans (see Overwatch wiki link above).

Numbani, where Efi lives, is one of the few places in the Overwatch universe where omnics and humans live in harmony and equality. Formed after the Omnic Crisis, it’s “one of the world’s greatest and most technologically advanced cities.” This is also where as part the Unity Day festivities, the gauntlet of Doomfist is exhibited at the Numbani Heritage Museum.

So. Even though the 24th hero coming to Overwatch is apparently not Doomfist, unless Blizzard is messing with us, it’s quite possible Efi may have something to do with his story, or will possibly introduce some sort of new Omnic hero into the game. Or, she could transform into a hero or even be the hero. Only Blizzard knows.

We’re just speculating on all of this obviously. Hopefully, we’ll know more soon.

For Honor character guide: the Valkyrie has great range and trip attacks, best used offensively

21 Feb

The Valkyrie in For Honor is a bit of a badass, but only if you use her right.

The Valkyrie in For Honor will receive a few changes with the next update, but until then, you are free to go nuts with her.

Some of the changes coming to the Valkyrie in For Honor are buffs to some of her moves and a reduction in recovery time on others. Once the For Honor update drops, the following changes will be made to the Valkyrie:

  • Light attacks: reduced recovery time
  • Light chains: reduced time between attacks
  • Pouncing Thrust & Hunter’s Strike: increased damage and link options after those moves
  • Shield Crush: add link to Light Attack chains
  • Hunter’s Rush: reduced recovery time

There are also game wide changes coming to all Guard Breaks to make the countering mechanic more inline with the beta, but until then, here’s a quick guide on how to play the hybrid hero as she currently stands.

As Arekkz notes in his video, the Valkyrie is a complex class to play despite her versatility, so hopefully this guide will help you make the most of what she has to offer.

Also, please note the controller buttons mentioned below (X, RB etc) are for Xbox One, so it goes without saying PlayStation 4 and PC players will have different configurations. We included these for explanation purposes only.

First up is her Superior Block Light Attacks. During the start of any Light Attack, a block property is in place. This can be used to counter incoming attacks if properly times. Her shield will flash orange at the start of any light attack and if your Light Attack matches the direction if an opponents incoming move, you will counter it – similar to parry but slightly easier. Once the attack is countered, the Valkyrie can follow up with her own attack. While the light attack obviously does less damage, it opens the door for attack chains.

One of the chain combos is called Boar Hunter, which is a chain of three Light Attacks (RB, RB, RB). To pull it off, the first attack must not have been blocked by the opponent. If the first two attacks land, the third one will stun the enemy, leaving it vulnerable to any other attack you wish to use. You can also use Spear Sweep (unblockable) as the third move in the chain to knock down your enemy.

Thrust and Slash is another chain which consists of two Light Attacks and one Heavy Attack (RB, RB, RT). As with Boar Hunter, use Spear Sweep as the third move in the chain to knock down your enemy. If you choose the Heavy attack instead, it will pull a sweep anyway, knocking the opponent down and ripe for a follow-up.

The Third chain, Harrier’s Fury starts with a Heavy Attack followed by two Light Attacks (RT, RB, RB). Again, the third attack can be replaced with Spear Sweep.

One of the Valkyrie’s moves is called Hunter’s Rush. It’s a good chase move in which the player will sprint toward the target, press RT for a Heavy Attack which has a rather large reach. This makes it so you can go into attack mode before your opponent is even in range. You can open with this, or chase them down as already mentioned. Make sure you aren’t locked in guard mode or this won’t work.

Pouncing Thrust is another move which you dodge forward and perform a Light Attack (forward, A, RB). Here, the Valkyrie will leap toward their opponent, and it has some rather nice range. This move can also be followed up by a chain attack such as Boar Hunter or Thrust and Slash or even one of the Guard Break options.

Similar to Pouncing Thrust is Hunter’s Strike only instead of going forward, you’ll go left or right when dodging then performing a Light Attack. A chain combo can be used as the first attack as well.

Guard matches the direction of the Valkyrie’s dodge, so if you dodge in the same direction as the incoming attack, it will be blocked. If followed with a Heavy attack, the player can then go into Shoulder Pin which adds a bleed effect.

The Valkyrie also has two shield moves, one called Shield Crush. This is a Heavy Attack followed up by Guard Break (RT, X). This pushes the enemy back providing an opportunity to use chains. The other is Shield Tackle (down, A, Guard Break [X]). You you hold guard break, you will assume a stance which allows you to block without having to match the incoming attack. That said, it will drain stamina quickly, so don’t rely on it too much. Once you let off Guard Break when in this stance, you will then go into a Shield Tackle or press RB to go into a Pouncing Thrust.

for_honor_valkyrie_3

She can also make use of a move called Ram’s Headbutt where if you go into Guard Break (X) and press and hold the button again (X,X) you will headbutt your enemy. The longer you hold Guard Break the farther the opponent will be knocked back. If you don’t hold Guard Break, it will just headbutt them resulting in a push back. If you do it with the hold (X,X) it will push them back and stun the enemy.

This can then be followed by by the unblockable move Spear Sweep which is a double Guard Break move used with down and Heavy Attack (X,X, down, RB). You can also go from Shield Crush into Spear Sweep by using Heavy Attack, Guard Break, down, then Heavy Attack again (RB, X, down, RB). Again, Spear Sweep cannot be blocked, but it can be evaded or interrupted by other players. Be sure to mix things up if relying on Spear Sweep as your opponent could catch on if you continue to use the same moveset. Also, continuous Speak Sweep combos will drain stamina.

Arekkz also notes you can use a Zone Attack to clear enemies out of the way without fear of interruption. While it clears the way while applying moderate damage, it will use half of the player’s stamina, so it’s best to use in sticky situations only. Players can also cancel a second attack should they need to by pressing the corresponding button (Xbox One users would normally press B).

The Valkyrie’s shield and ability to trip players is a core part of the class’s strategy. Some attacks are slow to set up and easy to read, so it’s best to wait for the opponent to attack first, and attempt to counter it. This especially true to due the class having strong guard skills and waiting on the opponent is easier than trying to go on the offensive.

Of course you can jump in with Hunter’s Strike or Pouncing Thrust but should you get countered, you don’t have a lot of health. Therefore, it’s best not to get caught off guard. And always try to use a Heavy Attack after performing Spear Sweep as the opponent will be down on the ground.

In short: play the Valkyrie offensively, react to the enemy, take advantage of the character’s range, sneak in trip wherever you can, and hopefully you’ll take your opponents down in no time.

There’s a few more suggestions on how to use the Valkyrie in Arekkz’s video – so be sure to give it a watch.

Fallout 4 VR: “You can play it start to finish right now,” says Howard

20 Feb

Fallout 4 in virtual reality is coming along nicely. A release date? Ha ha, don’t be funny.

fallout_4_dlc_nuka_world_new_shot_4

Fallout 4 VR is “going great”, according to Bethesda Softworks studio boss Todd Howard.

“There’s a lot of work to be done, but it’s super exciting. We are doing the whole game,” he told Glixel of Fallout 4 VR.

“You can play it start to finish right now, and the whole thing really works in terms of interface and everything.”

Howard made some further comments about how well Fallout 4 works in VR, especially the Pip-Boy interface and V.A.T.S., which Howard decribed as “awesome” in VR.

He also said that Fallout 4’s less-twitchy gunplay works better in VR than more frantic action shooters, but the reason you can’t have Fallout 4 right now despite it being fully playable is that Bethesda is still tinkering with some of VR’s problems – notably player movement.

“Locomotion is definitely the hard part, I will admit. Given the size of the world and the amount that you’re moving in Fallout 4 that part is tricky because you’re doing it a lot,” he said.

“Right now we’re doing the teleport warp thing and that’s fine, but we’re experimenting with a few others.”

Some of these “others” will be available when Fallout 4 VR releases; you’ll have your choice of movement methods. Good news for the motion-sensitive among us, who can select the least nauseating one, while those with stronger stomachs won’t be held to the slower options.

“It’s going great. It’s definitely the right game for us to do,” Howard concluded. Do hi the link above for the full interview as there’s a lot more to unpack than the brief snippets quoated here.

Fallout 4 VR was announced at E3 2016 and was expected to release within 12 months of announce. Given Bethesda’s recent fondness for very short PR cycles I wouldn’t be terribly surprised if it pulled a Fallout Shelter on us and released Fallout 4 VR during E3 2017.

Last time Howard spoke about the Fallout 4 VR project he said Bethesda believes the VR market will sort itself out. It’s kind of funny that the publisher is apparently so enthusiastic now; the narrative painted when John Carmack left id Software was that Zenimax wasn’t interested in VR. (That all ended in tears though, so who knows what the real deal is.)

Anyway. Fallout 4 VR: still a thing, again.

Battlefield 1 video gives a look at the new Frontlines mode coming next month

20 Feb

Battlefield 1’s new mode is a mix of Conquest and Rush.

Battlefield 1‘s upcoming DLC pack They Shall Not Pass delivers a new game mode called Frontlines.

As you’ll see in the video above, Frontlines brings a sort of tug-of-war mechanic to Battlefield 1. The maps is broken up by a linear series of objectives, only one of which is active at any time, starting in the middle. In order to advance through this phase, one side needs to capture all the objectives on the way to the enemy base.

When one side reaches the other’s base, their objective changes: they need to destroy two telegraph posts inside the base. Unfortunately for them, during this phase the defending team can use the telegraphs to summon artillery strikes.

This second phase ends when the telegraph posts are destroyed or the attacking side runs out of reinforcements. In the latter scenario, the game reverts to the first phase, and players start fighting for objectives again. The round ends after a successful attack on both telegraph posts or when time runs out.

They Shall Not Pass brings new maps as well as a class, vehicle and stationary weapon to Battlefield 1. It’s expected sometime in March on all platforms.

To prepare yourself for the DLC, make sure you have the Winter Update which dropped last week, buffing, nerfing and adding new features and progression systems. Check out the Battlefield 1 Winter Update patch notes, or opt for a more concise rundown of Battlefield 1 Winter Update major changes and features.

Battlefield 1 is available on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

For Honor trailer reminds you it’s pretty good, in case you’ve been under a rock with your fingers in your ears

20 Feb

For Honor: it’s good. But don’t trust us, trust this promotional video.

For Honor has been generating a huge amount of buzz since its popular beta tests, and there doesn’t seem to have been any die off now that it’s actually out.

The video above is littered with accolades for the multiplayer factional brawler, which Ubisoft apparently thinks is what will convince you to invest in For Honor.

If you’re only just getting onboard now or want an edge on the competition, check out our growing For Honor guide. We’re collecting detailed character guides, with video, in addition to basic and more advanced tips.

For Honor may have a very different aesthetic to Overwatch but like Rainbow Six Siege it seems positioned to occupy a similar sort of hero-driven space, where character choice and knowing how to counter the abilities of the whole roster is an important part of high level play.

This design seems to have crept over from the MOBA space, but the immediacy of the action in games like For Honor and Overwatch mean everyone can get in and have a good time without immediately hitting a steep learning curve. It’s an interesting trend.

Pokemon Go: these new Evolution items are obtained at PokeStops – but the drop rate’s all over the place

18 Feb

The large Pokemon GO update this week not only brought with it 80 new monsters and customization options, but new Evolution Items as well. Apparently, they are also rather rare.

pokemon_slowking

According to Nintendo Life, the new Evolution Items in Pokemon Go can be obtained at PokeStops, and currently there are five stone types:

  • Dragon Scale: Evolves Seadra into Kingdra
  • King’s Rock: Evolves Poliwhirl into Politoed / Slowpoke into Slowking
  • Metal Coat: Onix into Steelix / Scyther into Scizor
  • Sun Stone: Gloom into Bellossom / Sunkern into Sunflora
  • Upgrade: Porygon into Porygon2

These Evolution items are used to evolve the aforementioned Gen 1 Pokemon into Gen 2 creatures. However, the drop rate for the Evolution times seems to vary, hugely.

Over on reddit, some users report going to multiple PokeStops without obtaining a single Evolution item. One user said they spun over 250 times and went home empty handed, while another obtained one on their first PokeStop spin.

Along with Evolution items, there are two new berries at PokeStops which help players entice Pokemon: Nanab and Pinap.

The former slows the Pokemon down to make it easier to catch, while the latter doubles the candy handed over upon being caught. The drop rate on these berries is said to be much higher than the Evolution items.

In other words, keep trying and use those berries. It’s unknown if this intended programming on Niantic’s part, or if there is a balancing issue.

But at this point, it’s basically like rolling for loot in D&D: some have better luck than others.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3 screens show boss fights, gameplay

18 Feb

Along with Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest going on in Germany, Square Enix also has a presence at the Monaco Anime Game International Conference 2017 (MAGIC). Here, the company showed new images of Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Kingdom Hearts 3.

kingdom_hearts_3

Sadly, not much was revealed on either Final Fantasy 7 Remake or Kingdom Hearts 3, but a little information is better than nothing at all.

According to Tetsuya Nomura, speaking with Gameblog.fr (thanks, Gematsu), the screenshot shown for Kingdom Hearts 3 takes place in Thebes. You also get to see the new model for the Heartless.

Nomura said the Keyblade Sora wields will also turn “into a lot of things,” thanks to its Power Form such as a shield and even chariot.

Kingdom Hearts 3 was announced in June 2013 at Sony’s E3 press conference, and it doesn’t have a release date – but we hope it lands sometime this year.

final_fantasy_7_1

The Final Fantasy 7 Remake images Nomura showed provide a look at the combat system. He said the combat will occur with without interruption and that when using grenades, allies won’t take damage, but scenery will be partly destructible.

In the image below, you’ll see the Scorpion, which is the first boss in the game.

final_fantasy_7_remake2

Nomura also said he wanted to show a video of the game, but Square denied the request, but more would be shown at a later date.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake was announced at E3 2015 for PlayStation 4, and it too is without a release date.

Final Fantasy 14: Stormblood – Samurai job, new areas, dungeons more announced at Fan Fest

18 Feb

Final Fantasy 14 Fan Fest 2017 is taking place this weekend in Frankfurt, and this morning, Square Enix announced more details on the Stormblood expansion.

In the video above, Arekkz provides a recap of the announcements for Final Fantasy 14: Stormblood which was announced back in October.

The expansion will come with a new job, the Samurai, which is a DPS class along with the Red Mage job, which was announced alongside the expansion. You can see the video of the job’s introduction below, which also features clips from the Stormblood announcement video.

The Samurai starts out at level 50 and uses the katana as its main weapon. By using various sword techniques along with three forces of nature (flower, moon and snow), the Samurai is capable of dealing heavy damage using stored energy.

final_fantasy_14_stormblood

Another Beast Tribe will also join the previously announced Ananta. Called the Kojin, the tribe is made up of traders which reside beside the Ruby Sea. Another new Primal, Susano, was also announced and is dubbed the Lord of the Revel.

Players are also getting a new housing and player hud in the areas Shirogane and Kugane, respectively.

Along with the previously announced dungeon The Bend of Time – Omega, the Azim Steppe and Yanxia were revealed today.

If more on Final Fantasy 14: Stormblood comes out of Fab Fest this weekend, we’ll be sure to let you know.

Stormblood will be released on PC and PlayStation 4 and PC June 30.

Portal, Half-Life 2 co-writer Erik Wolpaw has left Valve

18 Feb

Erik Wolpaw, co-writer on the Half-Life, Portal and Left 4 Dead franchises has left Valve.

Former Valve employee and fellow co-writer Marc Laidlaw revealed Wolpaw’s departure on Twitter when he saw the man himself’s workplace update on Facebook.

It was also reported at the time Valve writer Jay Pinkterton had also left, but that was not the case. He’s still there, per PC Gamer.

Wolpaw started out as a writer for the Old Man Murray video game commentary site, which he co-founded with Chet Faliszek, also a Valve employee. Along with co-writing Portal, Left 4 Dead and Half-Life titles, he was also a co-writer on the original Psychonauts when he worked at Double Fine and is currently writing for Psychonauts 2.

A reason for Wolpaw’s departure hasn’t been provided.

Watch Dogs 2 Human Conditions DLC adds five hours of content, video takes a look at two new missions

17 Feb

The next DLC drop for Watch Dogs 2 hits next week first on PlayStation 4, and according to Ubisoft, it’s rather large.

As outlined in the Season Pass, Human Conditions adds five hours of additional multi-mission Operations to the Watch Dogs 2 story. The video above provides a look at two of the new areas.

Players will be trying to uncover “biggest scandals on the cutting edge of science, medicine, and misuse” in San Francisco. It also provides Marcus and DedSec new villains to contend with, one of which – the Jammer – uses technology to hunt down the player.

Human Conditions also contains new elite co-op missions.

A patch for the game was released earlier this week, paving the way for the next content drop. It introduced free content with added and updated locations on the world map.

Additional content included new dance moves, emotes, clothing, Ubisoft Club Rewards, Bounty Hunter respawn, and some added narrative was added to the game’s ending.

It also introduced tweaks to online gameplay, bug fixes, PC-specific updates and balancing. It is around 10GB in sizes on both PS4 and Xbox One, and 14GB on PC. Ubisoft said it would be best if everyone download the update so the community wouldn’t be split.

You can look over the patch notes through here if you like.

The Watch Dogs 2 Human Conditions DLC will be released on PS4 February 21 and on March 23 for PC and Xbox One.

All present and future online content is available in Guest Mode. This allows a friend of yours who doesn’t own the DLC to be invited into the game through the multiplayer app.

Resident Evil 7 was the best-selling game of January 2017, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, other heavy-hitters play musical chairs

17 Feb

The NPD group has released hardware and software figures for January 2017 and it should come as no surprise that PlayStation 4 and Resident Evil 7 topped the respective sectors.

resident_evil_7_main_site

January 2017 NPD at a glance

Resident Evil 7 tops software charts

PS4 was best-selling console

PC software spend declined 12% year-over-year

All categories – accessories, hardware, software – down 4% year-over-year

Compare month-on-month: December 2016

Compare year-over-year: January 2016

While hardware sales declined, software was up 14% to $313 million. NPD attributed the increase to Resident Evil 7’s release, especially when comparing the year-over-year (yoy) release slates.

It’s also worth noting Resident Evil 7 was only on the market for five days when the NPD reporting period ended.

“With only five days in the market, Resident Evil 7 was the best-selling game in January,” said NPD analyst Sam Naji. “The last time Capcom had the best-selling game of the month (in dollar sales) was in March 2009 with Resident Evil 5.”

First-person shooters Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare and Battlefield 1 were still two of the best-selling games for the month, and neither title has fallen off the chart since release in fall 2016.

Overwatch also returned after dropping off the NPD software list in October.

The rise in sales could possibly be attributed to various discount offers or the Overwatch Year of the Rooster event; however, that’s just conjecture on our part as NPD didn’t elaborate on why Overwatch was once again charting. It was, however, one of the best-selling games of 2016 per NPD’s yearly report in January.

Action titles Grand Theft Auto 5 and Watch Dogs 2 also remained on the chart, while sports titles Madden NFL 17 and FIFA 17 remained popular with US consumers as well.

PC software came in at $16 million, a 12% decline yoy from $18 million.

NPD Software Top Ten January 2017

You’ll notice not much changed on the chart since December 2016, as the heavy hitters played musical chairs and that’s about it.

The biggest changes were the entry of new releases Resident Evil 7 and Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue – the second best-selling PS4 title for the month.

Pokemon Sun and Moon and Final Fantasy 15 fell off the chart, and again, Overwatch reentered it.

The full NPD software chart is below, but keep in mind not all digital stores report sales data. Some publishers who sell through the PlayStation and Xbox Stores report data, but others do not. For example: Microsoft, Sony and Blizzard (Battle.net) do not report first-party sales.

  1. Resident Evil 7 (PS4, Xbox One)
  2. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare (PC, PS4, Xbox One)
  3. Grand Theft Auto 5 (PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One)
  4. Battlefield 1 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)
  5. NBA 2K17 (PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One)
  6. Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue (PS4)
  7. Madden NFL 17 (PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One)
  8. Watch Dogs 2 (PC, PS4, Xbox One)
  9. Overwatch (PC, PS4, Xbox One)
  10. FIFA 17 (PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One)

This month, NPD also started reporting catalog sales of titles from the first six months of availability – starting with month seven (thanks, MCV). The winning publisher in the category for January 2017 was Take-Two and it was also the top publisher for 2016. NPD attributed this to continued sales of GTA 5.

NPD Hardware January 2017

Last week, the initial NPD report had PS4 topping hardware followed by Xbox One – which according to Microsoft enjoyed year-over-year (yoy) growth compared to January 2016.

PS4 sold the most units, with Xbox One coming in second place, and Nintendo’s Nintendo Classic Mini: NES in third.

“The PlayStation 4 was the best-selling hardware (in units sold) during January 2017,” said NPD analyst Sam Naji. “And for the fourth consecutive month, PlayStation 4 Slim System 500GB Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End Bundle was the top-selling PS4 sku in terms of units sold.”

For the month of January 2017, hardware totaled $127 million, a decline of 19% yoy compared to $157 million in 2016.

Accessories declined 17% yoy to $155, with toys-to-life skus (ex: Skylanders, amiibo, Lego Dimensions) showing the biggest decline.

Total spent in the US on accessories, hardware and software for the month January hit $611 million. While that’s indeed as large figure, it’s 4% less compared to $637 million spent in 2016.

NPD said the lower figure was due to a decline in hardware sales and general lack of growth.

Because of this, I have no idea which faction she will choose, but I’m crossing my fingers for the Berserker because chaotic and brutal viking are my thing. In games, obviously.

It’s also possible we’ll see some multiplayer later on. Wish her well.

If you’re playing For Honor and need some tips, give our guide a read.

A new Mass Effect: Andromeda trailer lands tomorrow and the focus is on weapons and skills

16 Feb

Those looking forward to Mass Effect: Andromeda will be pleased to know a new video will be released tomorrow.

According to Bioware, the Mass Effect: Andromeda video will provide an extended look at weapons and skills, as teased above.

The studio has previously touched upon weapons, but only slightly. It said players will be able craft melee weapons and others, such as a plasma rifle, by scavenging alien tech and researching how it works. They can even give their crafted weapons names.

Skills, as noted above, will also factor into the trailer. Hopefully, we’ll be provided with a look at the various builds, as we are especially interested in the “pyromaniac build.”

Mass Effect: Andromeda releases for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on March 21 in North America, and March 23 in Europe.

EA Access members will be able to play Mass Effect: Andromeda early for a limited time, starting on March 16. The trial lasts 10 hours and all progress will carry over into the full game when it releases.

The game can also be pre-loaded on March 17 starting at 10am PT/1pm ET/6pm UK.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands open beta kicks off next weekend, pre-load it on February 20

16 Feb

The Ghost Recon: Wildlands open beta will kick off next weekend on all platforms.

Each player participating in the Ghost Recon: Wildlands beta will have access to the exclusive “Unidad Conspiracy” mission if they purchase the game and “play it in full by March 31.”

Players will need to use the same Ubisoft account for both the beta and full game in order to acquire the content.

The Unidad Conspiracy mission, players are tasked with “sparking a war” between the corrupt militia group Unidad and the Santa Blanca cartel.

As previously reported, the open beta will also introduce a not one, but two provinces among the 21 included in the final game.

These are Itacua, a mountainous province where the grip of the cartel is looser and Montuyoc, set in the snowy Altiplano, a much more challenging area. Luckily, the player will have gained XP and skills boosts by suppressing the Itacua bosses in the first province.

They can, of course, jump right into Montuyoc if they wish but it sounds unwise.

As in the full game, all the content in the open beta will be playable with up to three friends on the same platform via four player co-op, or in single player.

Players will be able to make use of a large variety of vehicles, tactical equipment and weapons as well.

The Ghost Recon: Wildlands open beta will run February 23-27, and you can start pre-loading the beta on Monday, February 20.

If you are unable to view the trailer above, the UK one is through here.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands will be released on PC, PS4 and Xbox One March 7.

This For Honor-inspired track from Italian rapper MadMan was created in partnership with Ubisoft

16 Feb

Hopefully, you understand Italian otherwise you’ll just have to enjoy the music in this track titled “For Honor”.

Created in collaboration between MadMan’s label and Ubisoft (thanks, Hano.it) the tune is inspired by the firm’s latest release, For Honor.

The video and tune by MadMan, whose real name is Pierfrancesco Botrugno, was released this morning and features the rapper doing his thing against a backdrop with scenes from the game projected on it. There are also clips of gameplay.

Watch for yourself.

And, if you are playing the game and having any issues getting started, or with a certain class, give our guides the once over. They could be of some help.
