Become better acquainted with Nier: Automata’s androids by watching this video

11 Feb

A new video for Nier: Automata has been released, so head below and give it a watch.

The video provides more information on the androids 2B, 9S and A2 as they battle to reclaim the “machine-driven dystopia overrun by powerful machines.”

Those who live in Japan will be able to get their hand Nier: Automata before the rest of us, as it’s out in the region on February 23.

For folks who live in Europe and North America, the game is out on March 7 for PS4.

It’s also in the works for PC but a release date for it hasn’t been announced.

Activision studios Infinity Ward, Beenox, others hit with layoffs

11 Feb

A round of layoffs has hit Activision studios.

call_of_duty_infinite_warfare-2

While layoffs are common in the industry, many industries for that matter, it seems rather odd to hear about redundancies when a company recently announced better than expected revenues.

According to Kotaku, the publisher has laid off 5% of it’s workforce. This includes folks holding positions at the corporate office along with Beenox, Infinity Ward and other internal studios.

An official statement sent to the site from Activision confirmed it was “realigning” its resources to support upcoming projects, and “adapt to the accelerating transition to digital.”

Per the report, 20 employees were let go from Infinity Ward. While Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare did not meet the publisher’s sales expectations especially when compared to Black Ops 3, the franchise as whole did well during the last quarter.

That said, it’s worth noting Activision mentioned during its investors call earlier this week the 2017 entry in the franchise will take “Call of Duty back to its roots.”

Along with redundancies hitting Infinity Ward, the in-house QA end of Beenox has been shuttered. A source speaking with Gamasutra stated there are still 150 developers working at the latter.

Splatoon 2 features Private Battle Spectator View and LAN Play, new map detailed

11 Feb

Here’s quite a bit of Splatoon 2 news for you, along with a new video released by Nintendo.

The video is in Japanese (thanks, Nintendo Everything), but it still gives you an idea of what to expect from the new Private Battle Spectator View announced for Splatoon 2.

This new feature allows up to two non-players to spectate a Private Battle and act as camera operators in order capture all the action. This is in addition to the eight players who fight in the Private Battle.

Speaking of eight player battles, as previously reported, Splatoon 2 will allow up to eight Nintendo Switch systems to connect via local wireless to play Private Battles. But, there is a new feature included with the game called LAN Play.

It will enable players to connect eight docked systems using a wired LAN setup to create local Private Battle tournaments without an Internet connection. Plus, with the Private Battle Spectator View feature, two additional Switch systems can also be hooked up to take advantage of the feature.

Along with the aforementioned features, the development team also provided information on Splatoon 2’s new stage: Musselforge Fitness. It’s a workout facility located in a large warehouse, containing a bouldering gym, swimming pool, treadmills and more.

Finally, the studio also provided a look at the Slosher, which has had some cosmetic adjustments made to bring the class in-line with other legacy weapons.

Hit up the links to the Splatoon tumblr for more information.

Splatoon 2 is slated for a summer release on Nintendo Switch.

For Honor – if you aren’t one of the 3M playing the beta, enjoy the launch trailer instead

11 Feb

The For Honor open beta is going on this weekend, and it seems to be rather popular.

Over 3 million players popular, according to a tweet from Ubisoft. If you have yet to jump in, the For Honor beta runs through Sunday, or Monday depending on your time zone, so get to getting it as my grandmother would say.

If you are playing and need help, here’s a few tips.

Since the game is out next week, Ubisoft has also released the launch trailer, as you no doubt noticed. Give it a watch, as the wait is almost over.

The video seems to only be available on the US end at the moment (we checked various Ubisoft YouTube channels before we posted the video by the way), so if it is region locked, we are terribly sorry. Don’t blame us.

For Honor will be released next week on February 14 for PC, PS4 and Xbox One.

Overwatch – more Doomfist hints have popped up on the PTR

11 Feb

With the latest Overwatch patch up on the PTR, those testing upcoming changes to the game have found what looks to be additional teases for Doomfist.

While the rumors and hints surrounding Doomfist have yet to reach Sombra proportions, the buzz around the possible inclusion of the character in Overwatch is gaining steam. Thanks, Terry Crews.

In the video above, Arekkz goes over the various Doomfist hints found by players on the PTR, the main reference being a new model of the Numbani Payload depicted by a wire mech file. Here, the glass on the payload containing Doomfist’s gauntlet is broken, as we previously reported.

Along with the file, the menu music in the PTR has also been changed to Doomfist’s theme, which was first heard in the original Overwatch cinematic, and the Hero Gallery UI has changed slightly as if to make space for another Hero card.

So, do all signs point to Doomfist coming to the game, or a Doomfist event of sorts? If an event, maybe the goal is to find out who stole the gauntlet. Or he’s indeed the next hero. We can only speculate at this point.

The Year of the Rooster event ends next week, so it’s unlikely new content will be added so soon. But, as Arekkz notes, with PAX East coming up in March, it’s possible we will hear more then or at least get a cinematic. Maybe. You know how things work with Blizzard.

Anyway, give the video a watch.

Warhammer 40K: Inquisitor – Martyr founders can now jump into the action-RPG’s alpha

11 Feb

Those part of the Founders’ Campaign for Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr can now participate in the alpha.

Called The Founding, the early purchase incentive gives players the ability to help influence the development of Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr. There are various packages available, so if you are interested, be sure to look them over on the Neocore Store.

The trailer seen above was released to mark the launch of The Founding.

Kicking off yesterday, the alpha provides access to the earliest playable build, up to the final product’s release. Neocore Games said the current build lacks features and gameplay elements which will make the final game, so that’s something to keep in mind.

Announced in July 2015, Warhammer 40K: Inquisitor – Martyr is an isometric action-RPG sandbox, and Neocore promises it will continue to evolve with a “continuous flow of content” as well as years of entertainment value. And blood. Lots of blood.

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor – Martyr is currently without a firm release date, but will be made available on Mac, PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
