“I’d like to see” Gran Turismo PS4 support VR, says Yoshida

30 Sep

Gran Turismo in virtual reality would certainly be a thing, wouldn’t it?

playstation_vr

SCE Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida is speaking our language. Asked whether we’d ever see a VR-enabled Gran Turismo, the executive was immediately on board.

“Many trial tests we’ve been doing, some genres just work fine. One of those genres is racing games,” he told Eurogamer.

“So when Gran Turismo comes out on PS4, I’d like to see it support PlayStation VR, yeah.”

We’d all like to see it, of course, but not all of us run a global network of development teams with the power to make it happen. Yoshida does.

We probably have quite a wait in front of us, though. Gran Turismo sequels take a long time, and Polyphony seems committed to supporting Gran Turismo 6 on PS3, releasing a track editor this week.

Destiny: The Taken King – where is the Sleeper Simulant?

Sleeper Simulant is Destiny: The Taken King’s must-wanted Exotic. Where the heck is it?

Sleeper Simulant is supposed to be Destiny: The Taken King’s answer to Gjallahorn – the new Exotic everyone will be chasing. But here we are, several weeks in, and nobody’s found it. Bungie said the puzzle leading to this boomstick might be too hard for any one player to solve, so let’s crowdsource this. Here’s everything Arekkz has been able to find so far; over to you.

Starter Tier 3 Runes in League of Legends Permanently on Sale

30 Sep
Starter Tier 3 Runes in League of Legends Permanently on Sale
League of Legends
eSports

While there is a multitude of things that seperate a new League of Legends player from an experienced veteran, most of those center around in-game knowledge and decision making. However, there is one very real statistical disadvantage placed on newer players, which is access to runes. There is a large variety of runes available in the game, and for each stat buff, there are three tiers of runes. As your account levels up, you gain access to a new tier, with the final tier 3 runes being unlocked at level 20.

However, even when a player hits level 20, they're not going to immediately have access to all of the runes they need. Runes cost IP (short for Influence Points), the in-game currency. IP can only be gained in small amounts by playing games, and is an effective way to keep players invested in the game. However, the in-game difference between a level 20 player who purchased tier 3 runes, and one who did not, is somewhat significant. Because of this, Riot Games has decided to permanently discount certain tier 3 runes by 50%, allowing players to more quickly have the type of in-game stats that they'll quickly come to expect. Here are the runes that have been discounted:

  • Greater Mark of Attack Damage: 205 IP ⇒102 IP
  • Greater Mark of Magic Penetration: 410 IP ⇒205 IP
  • Greater Seal of Armor: 205 IP ⇒102 IP
  • Greater Glyph of Magic Resist: 205 IP ⇒102 IP
  • Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage: 1025 IP ⇒512 IP
  • Greater Quintessence of Ability Power: 1025 IP ⇒512 IP

These are some of the most commonly used runes in the game, and combining them will allow players to be ready for just about any champion they wish to play, with a functional, if not completely optimized, rune page setup. While there's still work that can be done, this goes a long way towards improving League's oft-maligned new player experience.

Camelot Unchained Newsletter Speaks about Seasonal Events & Body Part Damage

Camelot Unchained

If you've got some time, the latest Camelot Unchained newsletter is out with tons, tons, and even more tons of information about what's going on in the game. To avoid talking about too much at once when you could just read the newsletter itself, I did find two very interesting parts to it.

First, seasonal events will be a thing. I love seasonal events. Seasonal events are what makes an MMO an MMO to me. If I can't feel the dry heat of summer as the temps rise with some kind of Midsummer Fire Festival or welcome Spring with something Easter like or celebrate Christmas in some capacity in a game, then it feels too far disjointed from my own reality. It looks like the team at City State Entertainment will try to make it work and have some awesome ideas for ways to implement it uniquely to their game. The really interesting part is:

Finally, since the Kickstarter began, we have talked about having a special RP server, which would have DMs/GMs running events, enforcing the rules, etc. An RP server is something that Mark has said will be left to the players themselves, to tell us if they want to support it. As is usual with us, we want to hear from our Backers on this issue, and there is a long-running discussion on our forums about it!

DAoC's RP servers were very much serious business. I can constantly recount the story of when I tried to see what an RP server was like, I had literally no clue how to RP, and I was met by a Paladin who tried his hardest to teach me, while remaining in-character. I messed up once, and OOC'd, he pulled me aside to an area where no one was and gave me a talk about how it's so important to never, ever OOC or else you could get banned. While the rules weren't that strict, they were in place to make sure the RP enviroment was immersive. So that's really cool to hear.

The other interesting bit is the body part system:

  • First pass of the body part and injuries system!
  • Right now, there's only one body part, the torso. More will come in the near future!
  • Torso health is now separate from the blood pool used to power your spells.
  • When a body part takes enough damage, a trauma and a wound are applied. A trauma is a short-term effect that can be removed with sufficient overhealing, but a wound is a debuff that stays until cured by a healer.
  • If a character takes enough wounds to the torso, he or she will die.

I don't really have a lot to say about it, but it's a really cool system. The only issue I have is that I hope it has a sufficent GUI to let me know if I'm about to bleed to death from my stomach wound. Seems also kind of table topy, which is cool.

You can read the full newsletter here, if you haven't subscribed yet.

RIFT to Increase Prices Across the Board

30 Sep
268972
RIFT
MMO

Stock up now on credit packs, REX, and subscribe to Patron if you're wanting a save some cash. Prices are rising as much as 33% for some products in the RIFT store. Right now, 12 month Patron is $119.98, but after the upcoming patch, it'll move to $131.88. Those in Europe will be paying around 30% more for credit packs, which I ASSUME is VAT related, but there is no clarification on that. Trion is stating that this is due to the global market and bringing everything in line to a similar price.

750 Credit Pack: $4.99 USD - 4.99 EU - 3.99 GBP
3,250 Credit Pack: $19.99 USD - 19.99 EU - 15.49 GBP
8,500 Credit Pack: $49.99 USD - 49.99 EU - 38.49 GBP
18,500 Credit Pack: $99.99 USD - 99.99 EU - 76.49 GBP
REX: $9.99 USD – 9.99 EU – 7.49 GBP

1 Month Patron: $14.99 USD – 12.99 EU – 9.99 GBP
3 Month Patron: $40.47 USD – 38.97 EU – 26.97 GBP
6 month Patron: $71.94 USD – 62.94 EU – 47.94 GBP
12 Month Patron: $131.88 USD - 113.88 EU – 83.88 GBP

Using everyone's favorite thing in the world, Google, the 3,250 credit pack is $22.34 at current exchange rates from EU to USD and $23.34 in GBP to USD. Doing some research, it seems that 20 EUR was giving 4220 credits before, which represents a 30% increase in price, but does normalize everything and I assume give Trion some wiggle room on how currencies could move without making this change again.

I feel that this is more fair to players paying in USD because it's closer to what they've been paying, but obviously those in Europe probably will fill a bit upset about it. You can stock up now though, if you want, at current prices and Patron status locks in if you have a recurring subscription. These prices come when patch 3.4 launches on October 7th.

Read the full details on their forums.

Two players have hit max Light level in Destiny: The Taken King

30 Sep

Starbai100 has become the first Destiny: The Taken King player in the world to reach Light level 310.

The obviously chuffed player posted the news on the Destiny sub-reddit.

Playing an Awoken Hunter, starbai100 said he got the last drop he needed last night in a raid. He is not the only player to achieve this feat, as you can see by the Destiny player tracker, trogdor69u recently hit level 310 with his Human Hunter.

Congrats to both.
