LittleBigPlanet 3 is Fully Backwards Compatible With Previous LBP Games

31 Oct

Littlebigplanet 3
Sony has announced its upcoming LittleBigPlanet 3 game to be fully backwards compatible with the previous two installments in the franchise.

This puts players at ease who will now be able to carry forward not only their save profiles, but also all of their downloadable content collection. Those who have spent years collecting in either the first LittleBigPlanet title or the recent one will not have all that time put to waste.

Posting on the official PlayStation blog, Sony explained that transferring your DLC collections includes all level packs and outfits. All that’s required is a re-download from LBP 3’s in-game store at no additional cost.

Importing your profiles will cross over every goodie you’ve come across so far – costumes, objects, music tracks, etc.

Additionally any content that you were ever able to publish previously will be available on your LittleBigPlanet Earth within LittleBigPlanet 3. Sony has also dropped in the ability to transfer LBP 3 custom content from the PS3 to the PS4.

You can publish levels containing this content in Prize Bubbles so that your Sackboy or Sackgirl can visit these levels to pick your goodies up for your latest creations on PlayStation 4.

“One of our biggest goals with LittleBigPlanet 3 on both PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 was to ensure that all of your previous hard work and item collections would carry over into the latest instalment in the series, so we’re very happy to be able to bring this news to you today,” wrote Steven Isbell, LittleBigPlanet community co-ordinator.

More details and instructions will be revealed soon. LittleBigPlanet 3 launches on November 28 for PS4 and PS3.

Diablo 3 Halloween Weekend Event Offers Gold and Experience Bonuses

31 Oct

Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition 03
Blizzard is inviting everyone to celebrate this year’s Halloween by taking part in a special weekend event for Diablo 3.

The event will run from Friday, October 31 at 12:00 a.m. PDT to Monday, November 3 at 11:59 p.m. PST; during which all players will get a temporary +100 percent bonus to Gold Find and experience gains.

This is the perfect time to take out those alternate characters and start grinding for levels and new equipment. Furthermore, if anyone is pondering over purchasing the game, this would be a great time to enter the world of Diablo 3 and instantly get two days of quick bonuses.

The official announcement notes that the bonuses provided “will stack multiplicatively with existing in-game bonuses, including those provided by items, shrines, Pools of Reflection, and Paragon points.”

The Halloween event will take place on all platforms. There’s just one thing to note and it’s that for PC, the buff will start and end at the noted times in each gameplay region according to its local time zone (PDT/PST for the Americas, CET for Europe, and KST for Asia).

For console, the buff will start and end in all regions at the same time, listed above.

Assassin’s Creed: Unity PS4 User Screenshots Confirm 900p Resolution

31 Oct

Assassin's Creed: Unity - PS4 Dump
Someone who managed to get hold of an early PlayStation 4 copy of Assassin’s Creed: Unity has uploaded screenshots to the web, and they spell anything but next-gen.

Whereas Ubisoft was pretty excited about their new installment ‘jumping’ into a new age, the studio was flagged down in a growing controversy of it running both the console versions at 900p to escape any sort of resolution-gate debates.

Usually, developers push each platform to its limits to ensure utilization of whatever resources available. In the past, we’ve seen many developers being able to run their games at 1080p on the PlayStation 4 while the Xbox One has mostly remained locked at 900p.

That, however, was not the case with Assassin’s Creed: Unity where the developer said that it was just not possible. The Internet detective though did not agree.

Still, with the game’s release in a few days there was hope that in the growing criticisms, someone at Ubisoft could have decided to turn around and enable the PS4 version to run at native 1080p. The screenshots uploaded on the web today beg to differ.

They confirm that the PS4 version will be running at 900p, much like the Xbox One. You can head over to GearNuke and browse through the shots at hand.

Will you still be purchasing the game or is playing Assassin’s Creed: Unity on 900p beneath you?

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare has a Region Lock on Share Play

31 Oct

Call of Duty Advanced Warfare New 04
PlayStation 4 owners are reporting that Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare has a region lock on the console’s Share Play feature.

The feature was just recently enabled for the PlayStation 4 via an update and allows players to stream their games to other people’s systems, even if they don’t own a copy. From then on the recipient can play the game without any restrictions.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, however, comes with a region lock and for players to be able to utilize its services, they need to be located in the same region. According to report simply switching over to a different PSN account will not help matters. The players really have to be located in the same region.

This may come as an annoyance for those interested in Share Play. Not everyone has friends living in the same locality, especially when it comes to online socializing and gaming. Region locking has always been a topic of controversy as it alienates the consumer base from each other.

Activision has not commented on the matter yet, but I reckon the matter will come to their attention in the coming days. We’ll see if it decides to remove the lock or not.

Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare’s Day Zero Edition was just released and the official launch will follow tomorrow. The game’s first DLC pack Havoc will launch in January and arrive first on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One platforms as part of an exclusivity deal.

The DLC will then arrive on the rest of the platforms a month later, which usually has been the program with the past Call of Duty titles.

The US Health Department is using iBeacons to make its employees walk more

31 Oct

Last year Apple introduced iBeacons, low-energy Bluetooth transmitters that wirelessly send alerts to your iPhone based on your proximity, touting them as a way for retailers to reach shoppers more directly with discounts and deals. As it turns out, they may be good for other things too, like helping you stay more physically fit. The US Department of Health and Human Services has installed several iBeacons and other wireless transmitters throughout its headquarters building in Washington, D.C. that send employees alerts encouraging them to "take the long way back to their desks," and hydrate more, as Bloomberg reports.

The executive in charge of the project calls them "an angel on your shoulder helping you make the right choices."...

Christopher Nolan doesn’t have an email address

31 Oct

Director Christopher Nolan has a new movie coming out soon: Interstellar, a big budget, original sci-fi film (original, as in, not adapted from any pre-existing novel or comic book property), which hits theaters and IMAXes across the US on Friday, November 7th. I'm excited to see it, as I'm sure many of you are. But until then, you can whet your appetite with a lengthy New York Times Magazine profile of Mr. Nolan, which explores how he came to make a bunch of commercially successfully and critically acclaimed movies over the past two decades: MementoThe PrestigeThe Dark Knight trilogy among them.

FCC might give Netflix what it wants and still allow Comcast to sell fast lanes

31 Oct

report published this afternoon by The New York Times details one of the possible plans the FCC may debut in their attempt to establish new rules around net neutrality and the open internet. It takes a "hybrid" approach, dividing the new regulations between commercial or wholesale internet traffic and retail or residential internet traffic. In a nutshell, this would mean content companies like Netflix will get the price controls they want when it comes to dealing with companies like Comcast, Verizon, and AT&T. But those companies will also be allowed to give certain data a fast lane over their networks if it was "justified," cementing the gutting of net neutrality that occurred when Verizon defeated the FCC in court.

Tonight is your last chance to watch ‘Apocalypse Now’ and ‘Say Anything’ on Netflix

31 Oct

Looking for some scary (or maybe not-so-scary) movies to binge on along with your Halloween candy tonight? If you're a Netflix subscriber, here's the list you should check out first, because all of these titles will be disappearing come November 1st. As is the case every month, Netflix is rotating out some of its vast library of movie titles and replacing them with new ones. The reasons have to do with the licensing agreements Netflix makes with with content providers, which generally limit streaming rights for specific titles to only a few months. For us avid viewers, it means we all have to make a choice on what movies we want to catch before they turn into a pumpkin disappear from Big Red forever. I've tried to help with some of my...

Go Play The Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries Demo Now

31 Oct

Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries

Belgian developer Grin released a demo on Steam for their upcoming game, Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries. It has three snippets of levels that were originally made for Gamescom 2014.

You may also have seen the game pass by during the press conferences this summer. It was then that the game was revealed to be headed to Xbox One as well.

Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries is a side-scrolling platform game with combat elements. In the future, the game will add more content, such as a story, upgrade system, unlocked content and so on.

In the demo, three environments offer a focus on their own gameplay elements. For instance, the Heavy Metal stage is a simpler platform affair with little depth.

Going to Meaner Pastures takes a jab at the game’s combat mechanisms, though they’re straightforward for now. You can dodge or perform a light or heavy attack.

For the puzzle segments in the game, try The Sewer Side. It also involves more 3D depth, since this is more than just a side-scroller.

It’s advised to use a controller when you play the Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries demo. In particular, some tricky jumps may work better with the more precise feel of a controller, though a keyboard layout worked adequately for us as well.

The demo for Woolfe: The Red Hood Diaries is being handed out for Halloween. It wants to follow up on the spooky theme, since the visuals of the game twist the classic fairy tale into a darker atmosphere, if just visually for now.

Roku’s streaming boxes can now watch movies and TV shows from Google Play

Roku owners can now rent, purchase, and watch videos from Google Play. Both movies and TV shows are available, marking a rather unprecedented step for Google. Until now, the company has reserved the best video experience for Android and Chromecast users. Sure, there's a Google Play Movies & TV app for iOS, but you can only view content that's already been purchased or rented on Apple devices — there's no way to search for or watch something on the spot. Roku users are getting a much better experience: they're able to instantly play anything in Google Play's video catalog. Google's even brought over its Google Play info cards to Roku, offering helpful cast and crew details whenever you pause a movie.

FCC drafting new 911 rules to prevent more service outages

31 Oct

The Federal Communications Commission is trying to update the aging American 911 network for an era of cellphones and fiber networks. On a call today, senior FCC officials announced that Chairman Tom Wheeler was circulating draft rules that would improve reliability, expand requirements for service providers, and make it clearer who is responsible when 911 fails.

The emergency phone system is increasingly facing problems as wireline networks age and VoIP and wireless phone use increases. It's had frequent failures, including a major "sunny day" outage (in which no outside factors were responsible) in April 2014 that affected 11 million people. The FCC cites at least three other cases from this year: a 20-hour service outage across the...

Today one test pilot died when Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipTwo crashed in the Mojave desert. A second pilot was evacuated to a hospital.

It's not clear why the crash occurred. SpaceShipTwo had been undergoing testing ahead of commercial flights. The spacecraft launches from the belly of the larger WhiteKnightTwo, once that cargo aircraft has reached cruising altitude similar to a normal airplane. Once SpaceShipTwo separates, it functions as a glider with a rocket motor. WhiteKnightTwo's takeoff occurred at 9:20 a.m. local time; SpaceShipTwo was released at 10:10. HP’s MB Chronowing smartwatch is more watch than gadget

31 Oct

Earlier this year, HP announced a collaboration with fashion designer Michael Bastian for a new smartwatch that would appeal to more than just nerds. Online retailer Gilt will be selling the new watch this coming Friday and The Wall Street Journal has gotten a first look at the device.

According to the Journal, the MB Chronowing will be available with leather, rubber, or nylon straps for $349, or with a crocodile strap and sapphire-glass crystal for a heftier $649. Neither version looks like a typical smartwatch — the MB Chronowing wouldn't look out of place in a glass case full of traditional chronometer-style watches. Its 44mm diameter makes it a pretty large watch, and the chunky bezel recalls Tag Heuer more than Dieter Rams Braun.
