Atari’s E.T. cartridge graveyard to be excavated by Canadian developer Fuel Industries

31 May

Fuel Industries, a Canadian game developer, has been given a permit from the city of Alamogordo, New Mexico, to excavate the landfill where Atari reportedly buried many, many copies of E.T. and other broken or unsalable merchandise back in 1983.

Dubbed the “Atari Graveyard” or the “Atari Dump” if you will, Fuel Industries plans to excavate the site and film the proceedings, eventually turning it into a documentary.

According to Alamogordo News, District 1 Commissioner Jason Baldwin said he himself played E.T., and “it was terrible.”

Fule Industries hopes the excavation will prove whether the old landfill, located near the Charlie T. Lee Memorial Relief Route in Alamogordo does indeed hold tons of old Atari merchandise.

The team will have six months to dig up the landfill, and at present, there’s no word on when the digging will commence.

Thanks, EvilAvatar.

DayZ interview: Hall details payment model, possible Special Edition

31 May

Dean Hall has said the DayZ team would like to release the standalone version of the game at a low price point and then raise the price as development progresses, Hall told VG247′s Sam Clay.

Think of it as a paid Alpha, something which has been touched upon in the past. Each release would have a price point different from the last, such as when it goes into beta and then again at full release. Kind of like the Minecraft payment model Hall talked about earlier in the week.

“We don’t want to limit the amount of people who play it so we look at some sort of developer’s package, where people will get initial access,” he said.

Keys on such a scheme would be limited as it would only be pulling in those who are “committed to the development” of the standalone version.

None of this is set in stone though, as the team needs to think and talk about it more.

Later on in the interview, Hall tells Sam that there might be a Special Edition of the game as well. It’s a possibility at least.

I won’t ruin the rest for you. Have a watch yourself.

A limited alpha test is already underway and a release date for the full version of DayZ has not been set.

Resident Evil 7 not appearing at E3 says source close to Capcom

31 May

It looks as though Resident Evil 7 may not make an E3 appearance after all, reports Geimaku.

Earlier this month, a promotional poster “claiming” to be for Resident Evil 7 and sporting a “The War Ends Now” tagline, was purportedly “leaked” onto the net.

Whether fake or not, and we are leaning on the former, a source close to Capcom states a RE7 is not on the cards for the LA Convention Center next month.

Capcom has previously stated that it will be monitoring reaction to Resident Evil: Revelations on consoles and PC before it makes a decision on where the series will head in the future.
